The Battleship TEXAS
is the last dreadnought in existence
in the world. She was launched on May 18th, 1912 -a
veteran of Vera Cruz (1914) and both World Wars. The
USS TEXAS is currently berthed at San Jacinto State
Historical Park near Houston Texas - where she is
undergoing restoration and renewal to restore her to full
active duty condition and status.
The battleship is open to the public year round and is a
living museum of our maritime and naval history.
We hope you enjoy this tour, photos by Spike Mike - a FTV
(First Texas Volunteer) who is actively involved in the
restoration project - scraping rust, painting,
identifying, cataloging and preserving items aboard ship,
scrambling up ladders to assist in dressing the ship - and
pitching in on many ongoing projects aboard the USS Texas.
For more information about the restoration project, visit
the USS Texas Web Site - link posted below
- and stay tuned here for additional photos and updates
from Spike Mike!
