Well got home from work this morning and tried to start my main system and its a no go. Its dead. It was working fine yesterday, I guess my mistake was shutting it down before going to work. In the mean time, I've resurrected an old back up computer that normally crunches data for Seti and little el...

I installed Windows Defender this evening. Not a big deal, nothing special or fancy as far as I'm concerned.

Microsoft verify's your Windows before allowing you to downlaod it, so this program will be a No-No for people running Pirated or Cracked versions of Windows.

I finally installed it. It is essentially the same build as 7.5 with a few cosmetic differences, but I have two issues with it: 1) my ZA has alerted to me that "Windows Live Messenger" was trying to monitor my computer activities even when the messenger was not signed on - aka: Microsux bu...

The first Article/post was clear tongue in cheek. Yes, most of the population whether they realize it or not is simply a pay check or two from being homeless. I'm sure many on this board, myself included, have had some rough times and been closer to being homeless then we realise. But... I'm sorry i...

Excellent movie, I saw it when it came out in the late 80's. I recommend it also. I have been trying to find it to rent because the hubby hasn't seen it but haven't had any luck. Talk Radio is a Classic movie for Fans of Talk Radio shows. Its available on both DVD and VHS, it used to be on Movie Re...

I'd love to buy a Mac, never used one, but have heard nothing but good things about them. But sadly, they are way out of my price range, I can get 2 or 3 PC's for the cost of the high end Mac's that I drool over.

Thanks for the replies so far.

My next set of days off I'll pull the casing apart and blow out the system and check all connections. I'm hoping its something simple.

I appreciate the input folks :)

Computer Start Trouble

O.k. Guru's here's one for ya's: The last few days due to local summer time temperatures I have been shutting down my main system before going to work, when I return home and go to fire up the system, I hit the power button and the machine begins to start, then a second or two later it dies complete...

Hey Tab, Good to hear from you! :) I'll keep you all posted if and when I manage to get the old AMD Dinosaur back into the crunching fold. Its cooling system has always been touch and go, so I may wait a couple months until it cools off around here to risk trying it. Given that it would take this ma...

Windows Live Messenger

Microsoft has been pushing its Its new Windows Live Messenger pretty hard lately.

Although I do use MSN Messenger I have yet to upgrade to the New Windows Live Version. Has anyone used it? Is it worth using?

Any opinions or input?

Thanks for the input there Pam :) I'm still torn between adding a new cruncher and fixing up the old one. I think I'm just spoiled, in Seti Classic I was used to being among the top 1% - 2% crunchers in the world, now I'm barely in the top 9% - 10%. Patience is a virtue I guess. Who knows I may cave...

Older Computers and BOINC?

The competitive side of me is starting to take over here and I'm fighting the urge to invest in a new computer, for no other reason, to be honest, then to help me climb up the BOINC ranks. But rather then waste money on a system I really don't need I'm beginning to wonder if I should pull an old com...
