Angry PETA

I barely know what to say......

PETA has got to be one of the most hypocritical groups on the planet.

Most people do not know this, but PETA runs it's own animal shelter program for pet adoptions. In Virginia, since 1998 PETA has euthanized 23,640 dogs and cats.

It gets worse, since 1998 that same PETA shelter has taken in 27,478 cats and dogs.

Their adoption percentage during that time period was just over 11%.

With all of those millions of dollars donated every year, you have to wonder........

As with ALL organizations, there are the good, the bad, and the ugly. If (only) 11% were saved, I'm thankful for all who were in that 11%.

As for PETA going after the car commercial in which a monkey was shown shooting off a device that released confetti? I think the re-done commercial is hilarious, and PETA got their just rewards for protesting such a benign commercial.

PETA should reserve their angst over trivia, and use their contributions more wisely.

What seems like a long time ago now, when I was discharged from the Air Force, one of the first jobs I got was woking in the orthorpedic research dept at the VA Hospital in Omaha. At the time, the staff there were working on ways to assess fractures through a plaster cast (fiberglass casting material was still unheard of back then). They were using an interosseous injection technique - drilling a hole in the bone, inserting an interosseous (bone) needle below the fracture site, and injectioning contrast media into the bone. X-rays wee then taken to see if the contrast was travelling across the fracture sie, which (the thought process went) indicate healing.

The research dept used to use dogs for the research, and they would get the dogs by visiting local animal shelters, and give them an extra few months of life before euthanizing them. What a miserable extra few months.

Abouth fifteen years ago, I read an article about the Body Shop, and how the company refuses to perform animal testing on their products - the policy made them one of the more profitable companies out there.......

In my life, I have done animal research. I hated every minute of it. Every minute. But in this day and age, such research is highly regulated, highly monitored, and carefully scrutinized. I no longer know anyone alive who doesn't treat these animals with the utmost of compassion. Yet, laboratories that use animals in research are a target of PETA.

When I worked as a public health inspector, one of the most horrific experiences of my life was when we busted a house -- who also had a meth lab in the attic. That's how they were "discovered" -- who would "adopt" sick animals from the shelter, chain them in the basement, and then let the starving pit bulls out of their 2x2 cages to fight each other over the kill of the chained animal. This was how they taught the pit bulls to be successful in a dog fight, so they could be sold at top dollar. The Animal Control Officers said the blood on the walls was so thick you could smell it. This "family" were all brought up on dozens of charges, and I was a witness in the case. Yet, I don't recall seeing a single member of PETA in court that day. Instead, the focus is billboards showing naked ladies who don't wear fur.

I have never taken PETA seriously. Like abortion-clinic-bombers and neo-Nazis, they are lunatics in search of a cause. Yes, I said it.

I was REJECTED from the college curriculum BECAUSE I refused to dissect living animals, even though they were "asleep" because of the ether on the cotton balls. I was IMMEDIATELY expelled from the college-prep high school program.

I had been a straight-A student, but my personal (not religious) beliefs did not qualify me to be excluded from that necessity.

I did well for myself, although having a college degree would have served me much better. But think of the frog(s) I saved... They had been some of my childhood friends; how could anyone with a conscience expect me to cut them open with their hearts still beating?! BARBARIC.
