All telescreens in Oceania to be commandeered Nov 9th

Post by SquidInk » 10-24-2011 08:16 PM

If you have ever wondered about the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.

On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

This isn’t a wild conspiracy theory. The upcoming test is posted on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau website. - source
So remember, on the 9th day of the 11th month you will be unable to tune in to your society. All broadcast mediums will be commandeered by the 'president'. Ok?

It's the first time in history such a thing will have happened, but it won't be the last, as the 'president' has permanently reserved the ability to control all broadcasts in this way.

... and you thought there would be no change.

It really makes no sense - it has never been used, ever. Why test it in the afternoon if it is just a test of functionality?
If history is any guide, however, you may not get any messages from 1600 Pennsylvania. Since the Emergency Alert System was created in 1963, it's never been activated, despite hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Oklahoma City bombing, and 9/11. Why?

The chairman of the FCC during the 9/11 attacks, Michael Powell, says that “The explosion of 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week media networks in some ways has proven to supplant those original conceptions of a senior leader's need to talk to the people.”

They also can send priority messages to your iphone (or other smartphone).

Well, if were already PAYING for it, don't we need to find out if it WORKS? After all, we're always hearing about the doom & gloom that can befall our country and our planet... Wouldn't it be nice to know we can all get the same message at the same time? And besides... it won't interrupt your video games, folks.

I don’t think there are very many of us that doubt the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves.

What concerns me is the amount of people that are reliant on the governing system.

Testing is one thing, this is not a "normal" test. The normal test which most of us have seen is always done late at night. There is no point in doing it when they are.
