Text to the Stars
An Australian project called "Hello From Earth" is ready to deliver your 160 character text messages to the planet Gliese 581d, though the Earth-like planet can't expect to receive the messages for another 20 years.
Wilson da Silva, a spokesperson for the project, says "It's like a 'message in a bottle' cast out into the stars. What's interesting is not just whether there's anyone listening, but what the public will say to intelligent life on another planet,"
The project is an effort designed for Australia’s National Science Week, which celebrates the country's forward strides in science and technology. The messages will be sent from the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex in cooperation with NASA.
You can join the project at http://www.HelloFromEarth.net.

Your interstellar message has been logged. It will be transmitted on 24 August 2009 to Gliese 581d, the nearest Earth-like planet to us, by the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex in Australia.
