If you can update the backend but

Post by dotcosm » 05-22-2011 10:09 PM

keep the frontend looking pretty much the same, then yes, go for it. Just as long as the archives never disappear.

that is what I am definitely thinking, no matter what happens with the upgrade. I am toying with the idea of making PDFs of the archives available if I can tease it out of the database in a reasonable form.

I seem to recall them being in PDF format in the past. But were they searchable then? I can't recall. I know it must be a tremendous amount of work, do you know what you've gotten yourself into? :D

BTW, I appreciate what you're doing, especially wrt the archives.

Linnea converted all the old stuff to .pdf so it may be kicking around somewhere.

I hope you can keep the look of the forum the exactly the same. Even to the extent of not offering alternate skins: I think it's better if everyone knows they're looking at the same thing.

But that wouldn't be the same. There have always been alternative skins here. I use a dark one - easy on the eyes.

The Art Bell is dark blue..the one I'm used to. But it is from out of the 90s.

Almost any board software will be able to be tweaked to look like the default vBulletin skin. It's very basic.

I like the default view myself, but eyes like the dark one..especially now, at night when they are tired.
