Fantasy Vacation

Post by Fan » 04-27-2013 01:07 AM

Let's just say that you suddenly were in a position to go on a honeymoon, anywhere. Price is not the biggest concern. Flying out of YUL airport.

I know we have some well-traveled folks here, opinions? Looking for privacy, ocean, good food...

Is this to be resort orientated or off-the-beaten path route?

I am very flexible. I want a good bed (queen size at least, I am big) and shower and access to restaurants. Willing to go local as far as food goes. Would love a sort of cottage or hut on a beach, my brother had something like this in Thailand.

I don't care about all-inclusive, everything is pretty bad there usually.

I don't want to go backpacking this trip. I want fantasy, the trip of a lifetime.

I don't do the resort thing myself.

I highly recommend Placencia in Belize.
A fellow there by the name of Stan rents apartments cheap.

At this time I was leaning towards Santorini, but I am open to anything. A shorter flight is good...

Belize does look and sound nice :) My dad was there a decade ago and he raves about it.

It's also a short boat ride to the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world. The Blue Hole is a must do if your into diving.

Placencia is also in the Guinness record book as having the world's narrowest road. It's affectionately known as The Sidewalk.

There is an air strip just north of Placencia.

And plenty of stuff to do. 16 miles of beach, Manatees in the mangroves, Mayan ruins about 2 hours away, Monkey river, the bird sanctuary. You can even troll for crocodiles......:coolhat:

A Serengeti safari. I would happily travel around in a jeep and sleep in it if necessary. Wouldn't care about amenities.

Myanmar looks pretty fascinating as well.

I have. It is amazing. I was lucky. I spent 2 weeks in Kenya and Nigeria. Did a hot-air balloon trip into Tanzania, with a champagne breakfast. Went on safari, saw everything you can imagine, including brand-new born cheetah pups and rare rhinos, giraffes, etc etc... sorry, got nostalgic :) I think it is too... rustic. I want more old-world or really spectacular beachfront, at least as good as Negril, which we have been to.

Sounds fabulous Fan! Except the hot air balloon part.

I am afraid of heights, but it was not at all as I would have thought. It was perfect because you could swoop down on wildlife with absolutely no sound (until they light the heater, then all hell breaks loose). You really feel like you are flying, you are standing on a very solid platform, but floating.

I spent 5 days in Nairobi, the murder capitol of the world. We drove by the public beach and the driver explained that the guillotine and gallows right there on the beach was only to remind people that they used to dehead criminals.
