Getting too old.......

Post by megman » 05-20-2013 03:02 PM

Had a major wipe out on my bike yesterday.

The whole left side of my body tried to take out a log fence at about 45 Km/h. It did not end well.

Quad took a direct hit on a rail, road rash on the whole leg, broken bones in the foot, puncture wound on my left forearm and busted hand.

They kept me overnight for observation only because they found Emphysema, and apparently the impact was so great that I had some of my alveolus leak fluid. Turns out it wasn't enough to warrant surgery.

OMG! Megman, Immovable objects are such B%*!h! Hope you mend up fast. My back is out, I am having sympathy pains with you! Ever notice our bodies are made for pain, with the zilliions of little nerve endings everywhere. Well, I'm sure that "cheered" you up, I am going back to my "fetal" position now. Hang in there!

Megman,

Really sorry to hear this, but you are alive and with us.

Was this on the way to work? Just wondering about physical therapy, recooperation time, etc.

Are you ready to quit smoking?

Take very good care of yourself.

Ironically if it wasn't for the fence, I would have ended up 100's of meters down a hill, probably in worse shape and bear food.

I haven't had a smoke in almost a month. After 35+ yrs the damage is done. Let that be a lesson to others.......

Here's an image of a section of the same type of fence that I had a run in with: Image

As you can see it's wired for added strength and it worked.

Sorry to hear about your accident. hang in there and don't try to rush the recovery. Trust me - I know what I'm talking about having screwed-up and tried to do too much too soon...... Watch the lungs. Hopefully you have someone who is either staying with you or can check-in on you.....

Holy crap megman! So sorry to hear this :(

I think everyone is too old for that sort of impact, those old fences are way stronger than a lot of new ones, those are some beefy pieces of timber.

So, are you at home now? In a cast I assume?

Yup, no give to cedar logs.

Have a cast on my left hand and foot.

When I'm up to it I'll get a pic of my watch. The impact literally blew the case apart.
