Why Are There No Indictments?

Unfreaking believable.

George W. Bush 'knew Guantánamo prisoners were innocent'
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld covered up that hundreds of innocent men were sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison camp because they feared that releasing them would harm the push for war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror, according to a new document obtained by The Times.

The accusations were made by Lawrence Wilkerson, a top aide to Colin Powell, the former Republican Secretary of State, in a signed declaration to support a lawsuit filed by a Guantánamo detainee. It is the first time that such allegations have been made by a senior member of the Bush Administration.

General Powell, who left the Bush Administration in 2005, angry about the misinformation that he unwittingly gave the world when he made the case for the invasion of Iraq at the UN, is understood to have backed Colonel Wilkerson’s declaration.

Colonel Wilkerson, a long-time critic of the Bush Administration’s approach to counter-terrorism and the war in Iraq, claimed that the majority of detainees — children as young as 12 and men as old as 93, he said — never saw a US soldier when they were captured. He said that many were turned over by Afghans and Pakistanis for up to ,000. Little or no evidence was produced as to why they had been taken.

Look at the angst Obama has had to take on as President, when he apologizes for the wrongs the U.S. has committed in the Past. He may only have another 3 years to right as many wrongs as he can... How can he possibly take the time to prosecute everyone who has ever committed crimes against all those who may not have been guilty? It would take FOUR terms to even break the ice. He needs to concentrate on righting whatever wrongs he can, and making our country stable, while he has the power. If and when the Republicans get back into Office, it will be a (BAD!) new day for the world. And just personally, I hope I'm not around to see that day. Not ALL, but MOST Republican Leaders are corrupt, sexually deviant, and allow power to corrupt them, no matter which state they are elected in... They rarely have a conscience that transcends their peers and their powers. As far as I'm concerned, the Party of "Hell, NO!"doesn't care about anyone who isn't rich or famous, or a member of the elite.

There wont likely be any indictments, because if there were, then one might reasonably expect that the Obama Administration would also have to answer for, clarify, or make more transparent their own actions in the war against...... whatever we call it now.

1. What exactly is happening at Bagram AFB? Why are we expanding it's capacity to hold twice as many prisoners? Why was the Red Cross report on Gitmo released, but the one on Bagram remains sealed?

2. Why is the Obama Administration fighting so hard to expand, or continue, the powers claimed by the Bush Administration when it comes to kidnapping foriegners, holding detainees indefinitely without charge, without oversight, without access to legal assistance?

3. Is torture and improper detention less morally reprehensible than the dramatically expanded use of CIA drones to assassinate our enemies in soveriegn nations that we are not at war with (not to mention the scores of civilians that have likely died during these attacks as well)?

It is frankly extremely disappointing to see so many of the anti-war folks, and so many of the "progressives" who fought so hard on these issues when Bush was President just give the government a pass now that their guy is in power (at least that is the case here). And let's be clear, in comparison, he is getting a pass despite a year now of developed track record on these issues. It's interesting to go back in to the archives and see the outrage regarding drone assassinations, the charges of "war crimes", the desire to see justice served when it came to tactics like these.......... it's interesting to look at all that in comparison with what is said on the topic now that Obama is President (at least as a Democrat, we can be confident that he is not likely a sexual deviant!).

In my opinion, it is extremely naive to believe that our treatment of prisoners has been dramatically changed for the better when basic oversight of these prisons is still not permitted.

PsychicWolf, Kaztronic and Bobbi Snow, I am very fond of all three of you. But how could you three be so naive even to think of this thread, much less to start it? It is standard operating procedure in organized crime that, when you can't get the people whom you would like to get, you get their wives and children and you cut off their fingers and toes, one a day, to get the person whom you really want into your power.

You three are about the only people in America who don't realize that. The American people --- who are far smarter than any of you three but who are very, very deeply wicked --- understood the score right from the start and were quite content that little children be tortured that they could take that wonderful vacation to Disneyworld this year.

The three thousand people who jumped out of windows on fire or who were crushed by tons of masonry on 9/11 were innocent people who did not deserve to die. But if an entire American city "lights up" in 2010, then who there will be innocent amid the piles of glowing rubble? What man? What woman? Even what child?

The American people have screamed, almost with one voice over the past nine years, "their blood be upon us and upon our children!" And you three --- God bless you for it! --- are, quite possibly, the only people in Amerika who are too stupid to understand this fact!

As always,

Joe
