BP Would Be Barred From U.S. Leases in Measure Sent to House
Companies with violations of federal or state safety standards more than five times the industry average going back seven years would be barred under the bill. The measure would also ban leases to companies that have received fines of million or more for violating the Clean Water Act as well as those that have more than 10 fatalities at their facilities over the period.
BP is the only company that would fail those standards, according to Representative George Miller, a California Democrat, who wrote the provision. The new rules wouldn’t affect BP’s current leases, and the company could continue to participate as a minority partner on future leases, Miller said.

Just wondering, what are people opinion on oil rig workers being angry because they can't go back to their jobs.
Mine is of course it stinks not having a job, but for gosh sake we still not even sure if it's safe or what caused it, this "I don't care what happens, I need to drill" attitude is what caused this problem in the first place, to have it while the oil is still gushing is ridiculous.

Yes, it appears that there is. Problem is, the government actually wants the cap removed - which would cause MORE oil to gush (rather than seep) out........

There you go man, keep as cool as you can. Face piles and piles of trials with smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave. And keep on thinking free. (Moody Blues)

Seti -- from ship captain - who runs a small fishing boat - news at noon hour. He stated there are a LOT of sear floor leaks, but he also said the worst spills are coming from large boats.

SO I have to ask why not attach some device to get that oil up to surface from that capped area? Wouldn't that cut the pressure and the leaks connected to that one? Looking at the cap it has pipes sticking out that could be attached to hoses of some kind to let that oil flow up into a ship/tanker.
-- sighhhhhhhhh

Unless they start pumping it off instead of sitting on it, it's going to be akin to giving an elephant 50 lbs of Exlax and then ramming in a cork........
This is going to be ugly.

BP Oil Spill may cause an irreparable damage to the Gulf Stream global climate thermoregulation activity
"It is reasonable to foresee the threat that the breaking of a crucial warm stream as the Loop Current may generate a chain reaction of unpredictable critical phenomena and instabilities due to strong non linearities which may have serious consequences on the dynamics of the Gulf Stream thermoregulation activity of the Global Climate"

Oil Rig Siren Was Kept Silent
See a pattern of these workplace disasters, tons of warnings and safety skips. But hey it's the free market where these companies all have the best interst of there workers and people in general in mind. No oversight needed, isn't that right.
NYTThe worker, Mike Williams, the rig’s chief electronics technician, said the general safety alarm was habitually set to “inhibited” to avoid waking up the crew with late-night sirens and emergency lights.
At hearings this week here, crew members have described repeated failures in the weeks before the disaster, including power losses, computer crashes and leaking emergency equipment.

I thought I saw some things posted on Corexit, but I don't see them here in this thread are they in another thread ?
BP has for the first time admitted that it made mistakes which led to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to U.S. reports.
The oil giant’s internal investigation found that managers misinterpreted data that told them a blowout was imminent on the very day the disaster happened.
