1st recall petition filed in Wisconsin

Post by SETIsLady » 04-01-2011 06:49 PM

La Crosse area Democrats have filed a petition with more than 21,700 signatures calling for a recall electoin of Sen. Dan Kapanke, one of eight Republicans targeted for his support of a controversial bill to curtail collective bargaining rights for public workers.

If 15,588 signatures are validated, Kapanke will be just the fifth Wisconsin lawmaker to face a recall election. Only two have been unseated.

Here goes the first recall in Wisconsin, thought could keep track of things here.

Good idea to start a thread to keep track of the re-call efforts. The governor and these elected officials apparently did not campaign on the radical agenda they have trotted out there in Wisconsin. Impeachment is the way to go in this case - and glad to see efforts are moving forward. This will probably have repercussions all across the land and impact the 2012 elections as well.

Here comes the 2nd....

Effort to oust Hopper close to gathering required signatures for recall election
Organizers of a campaign to oust Republican Senator Randy Hopper believe they may have enough signatures to force a recall election.

Organizers are in the process of verifying that the signatures came from eligible voters before filing the petition with the state, said Fond du Lac Democratic Party Chairman Rich Mantz. He would not say how soon organizers would be ready to file the recall petition.
"We have not confirmed we have enough signatures. We still are doing all our double-checking," Mantz said.

Campaign to recall Wirch says it has enough signatures

Post by SETIsLady » 04-05-2011 11:10 PM

The head of the campaign to recall Sen. Robert Wirch (D-Pleasant Prairie) says the group has gathered enough signatures to force a recall election.

Dan Hunt, chairman of Taxpayers to Recall Robert Wirch, says his organization has "well over" the 13,537 signatures required to force Wirch into a recall election, though he said the group still has a goal to collect 18,000, in case some of the signatures are disqualified. He said it's likely the signatures would be filed with the state Government Accountability Board next week.

Sen. Dan Kapanke is still the only one that has been officially filed.

I hope this fails badly.......Recalls are the stupidest thing ever...it thwarts and disenfranchises the voters that took the time to vote on the ACTUAL election....there should be NO do overs...

Harsdorf recall: Signature goal nearly met

NORTHWEST WISCONSIN - Those gathering signatures to force incumbent State Senator Sheila Harsdorf into a recall election in June have indicated they have collected more than the 15,000-plus signatures needed.

Harsdorf is one of eight sitting Republican state senators targeted for recall in the wake of Gov. Scott Walker's state budget proposal that sharply curtailed collective bargaining rights for public workers, including teachers. Republicans are targeting eight sitting Democratic senators. The goal of both sides is to gain/keep control of the senate, currently controlled by the GOP.
Organizers of the effort to recall Harsdorf say they are currently looking at six potential candidates to run against Harsdorf in the recall election.

The effort to collect signatures has resulted in 110 percent of the signatures needed but the group wants to get 125 percent before filing their petition. That will provide a safe margin, they say, when signatures are challenged by the opposition.

If the action (recall) is legal, then there shouldn't be a problem as long as it can be demonstrated that the actions of these officials have been contrary to their campaign promises, and that through their actions they are harming the state's citizenry. A case could be made that "all candidates break their campaign promises" but a more plausible case can probably be made that the actions of these legislators are endangering the populace, and waiting the normal amount of time until the next election would incur further harm. If the citizens of the state have lost faith in their representatives, they should be given the opportunity to elect someone who represents their, rather than those who may be percveived by them as outside special interests.

Wis. Dems file recall petition for 3rd GOP senator

Post by SETIsLady » 04-18-2011 06:33 PM

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin Democrats plan to file recall petitions for a third Republican state senator over his vote to curtail collective bargaining for most public employees.

Recall organizer Ann Schmidt says she'll turn in more than the 14,700 signatures needed for a recall of Senator Luther Olsen of Ripon. Democratic organizers have already filed signatures to recall GOP Sens. Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac and Dan Kapanke of La Crosse. Hopper and Kapanke are challenging those petitions.

Update to the update from earlier today.

Committee to Recall Harsdorf plans to file 20,000 petitions
Dunn County (WQOW) - A committee is ready to take the next step as it tries to recall a western Wisconsin lawmaker.

The Committee to Recall Sheila Harsdorf says it will file about 20,000 petitions Tuesday. That's about 4,000 more than they would need.

That is what democracy is all about. Especially since King Walker has openly admitted that busting up the unions had nothing to do with the budget. There have been nothing but continual lies coming from those that are supposed to represent the people of Wisconsin, not the Corporations. Glad your back in the saddle again Kbot.

As recall petition is filed against third GOP senator, GAB seeks to consolidate recall election dates
An effort is under way by the state Government Accountability Board to prevent confusion among voters by consolidating the number of recall election dates across the state

Wisconsin Updates

Post by SETIsLady » 04-19-2011 03:20 PM

Recall petitions have been offically filed.

Recall Petitions Filed Against Two More Wisconsin Republican Senators
Democrats and labor activists have filed recall petitions against two more Wisconsin state Republican senators who supported Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) bill to strip public employee unions of collective bargaining rights. Activists had already collected more than enough signatures to recall two GOP senators, and filed petitions yesterday against state Sen. Luther Olsen (R) and today against state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R). In all four cases, organizers collected far more signatures than the roughly 15,000 needed, and did so weeks ahead of the deadline.

Possible challengers
So far, Democrats have found solid challengers to both Kapanke and Hopper. State Rep. Jennifer Shilling will challenge Kapanke, and Oshkosh Deputy Mayor Jessica King will challenge Hopper. King lost in 2008 to Hopper less than 200 votes. The solid recruitment by Wisconsin Democrats in those races is another sign that the recall movement has some momentum behind it

Here is some additional information on the recalls going on. I haven't found much information on the recalls going on with the Dems. Here is the official site to keep track of how many signatures are needed and the those effected.

The link below has both Rep and Dems.

Oh boy I am sure this is going to help him.

Wisconsin State Senator Randy Hopper directing callers to adult chat line
A recalled Republican Wisconsin state senator who lives outside his district with a mistress is directing constituents to adult chat lines that welcome callers with the greeting, "Hey there, sexy guy..."

Sen. Randy Hopper lists his office number in a quarterly letter as 1-888-736-8729, which leads to a recording telling callers to dial 1-800-475-TALK, "the country's favorite live talk."
