Who, besides me, is a fan of Johnny Horton?

Post by Malaria_Kidd II » 12-06-2016 12:27 PM

One of these days the U.S. Navy is bound to name one of their newst multi million/billion dollar ships after The Singing Fisherman, Johnny Horton! We fans can only hope! Johnny's full name would be far more recognizable than some of the very strange names they pull out of thin air. Other than the normal ways of picking out names for new war ships of famous heroic sailors/officers, cities, states, and U.S. Presidents.

"USS Johnny Horton"

Surely fans have been thinking the same thing since he died while driving after Midnight and headed for Louisiana's opening day of it's duck season. As predicted by Johnny, he was killed by a drunk driver on a bridge as the two large vehicles hit head on in East Texas! :( :x On a two lane bridge there is no chance for an evasive maneuver to prevent such a crash from happening. :(

Sink the Bismarck - longer version!

I liked Johnny Horton, my favorite is" North to Alaska". Most of his songs wouldn't be played today, as the Democrats, are trying to cover up their Dixie history and pretend it didn't happen.

Mercy sakes Doka! I did not have the notification box checked!

You are a fan so that's one I can count on!

Young Abe Lincoln (Make a Tall, Tall Man)

That was a great analogy on the Dems! That party took a hit last month and it may never recover from it.
Now we watch daily the pundit-like critics trying to do the same thing to the new leader of the GOP. Will it ever end?

Just play some more of "Johnny Horton Makes History" and think positive that hope and change may become a reality for good winning out over anything evil.

View his 1960 album here. Mine still plays OK but in the sixties and seventies it's a wonder that it does since all the countless hours that it spun at 33 1/3 RPM while being stuck with that stereo's needle!

When you walk into the lower level of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri make sure you walk to the right into the center gallery of western history. One of the first pictures you'll see is Mountain Man Jim Bridger!

What happened to Johnny Horton?

This brief biography does explain the reason he wanted to cancel his (last) show in Austin, Texas. November 5, 1960 was the opening day of Louisiana's duck season and he did not want to miss it. The video notes his thoughts of being killed by a drunk. In another biography his manager and his bass violin player said he was driving very fast just as the drunk driver crossed the center line and hit his car head on, on a bridge near Milano, Texas. 😑

Jimmy (Jimmie) Driftwood's long version and I think he wrote the original right here! 8)

It's historically accurate to say the least! :surprised Of course except for the part about powdering the alligator's behind!

Another brief version worth listening to.......... :o
