Wow...personally, I'd never listen to the archives...I'd listen to the stream, though.

I think the problem was too many were listening for Sirius to handle.

I think the reason Sirius dropped off for the online users was because there were too many for Sirius to handle and as more users came online, prior users were knocked off. Or maybe everybody got knocked out.

Art was also concerned about the amount of people who cited the dropouts as a reason they were not subscribing to his show.

I, personally, believe that the reason the show isn't as dynamic as it used to be is because the callers are limited to subscribers and not just the general public where many of the crazy callers probably reside.

I hope this works out for Art and all of us. If they do a deal with Art to free stream his show and make the archives reasonably priced I would consider taking a subscription. But it has to be less than $14.00 a month. Sirius can still make big bucks off of Art, but they have to start being reasonable about the price.

I'd rather not speculate until we hear Sirius' answer, but I'd like to hear what Voguy thinks.

I know people who are getting it between $8.00 to $10.00. You just have to be a good negotiator, and also be willing to keep them on the line and wear them down. They will give in.

So I didn't need to purchase the unit and subscription because Art will be streaming himself live?

There's lots of comments at the Art Bell site. They're pretty funny...but I'm still not gonna comment yet.

If he's going to stream from art bell dot com why didn't he just do that in the first place?

Well...I guess there's the financial reasons.

"Hey, now that I've signed a contract w/ you guys, would you mind changing your entire business model, because my show's not working out too well. Oh yeah, it's because your software sucks."

One of the commenters on Art's site mentioned that Sirius is paying Howard Stern 500 mill. Holy Christ. I was just thinking about this, and if pressed, I wouldn't even know how to describe Stern's show at this point. What is it?

Also...I have to say the Sirius programming was hardly impressive. An "all Metallica" station? There were quite a few of that stripe. How does that represent creative or original programming? They need eclectic DJs creating their own style.

They got that? I'd prefer that to the "all Pearl Jam" station. Maybe.

Who knows what is in Art's contract with XM. But if there is a technology or stream clause he could enforce, then he could start his own pay per listen site easily. It's happened before in broadcasting.

It still has me shaking my head wondering why there isn't some hint of terrestrial radio access. Despite what some people feel, and the numbers claimed, the majority of people are still hooked on radio.

Actually, I'm surprised Cumulus Radio didn't make an offer. They would like to see nothing less than PremRad slit and buried.

In the past year Sirius has started simulcasting a few of the bigger terrestrial stations. KissFM, Z100 and a few other biggies from NYC and LA. And they have always had all the cable tv news channels simulcasted. This would be kind of the same thing but in the opposite direction.
