FCC To Investigate Stephen Colbert

Post by Riddick » 05-05-2017 08:46 PM

FCC chairman Ajit Pai said that his agency will be looking into complaints made against Stephen Colbert for what some labeled a homophobic joke about President Donald Trump.

“I have had a chance to see the clip now and so, as we get complaints — and we’ve gotten a number of them — we are going to take the facts that we find and we are going to apply the law as it’s been set out by the Supreme Court and other courts and we’ll take the appropriate action,” Pai told Philadelphia’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT.

“Traditionally, the agency has to decide, if it does find a violation, what the appropriate remedy should be,” he continued. “A fine, of some sort, is typically what we do.” Pai was appointed to the FCC in 2012 by President Barack Obama. He was elevated to the chairmanship of the commission by Trump in January.

Pai’s comments on Colbert are surprising as “The Late Show” airs outside the FCC’s long-established “safe harbor” time frame of 6 am to 10 pm in which the commission has the authority to police allegations of indecent and obscene material on the airwaves. They would also seem to clash with Pai’s vow to maintain a lighter regulatory environment for media overall.

Colbert faced backlash following the Monday night airing of “The Late Show,” during which he made numerous jokes about Trump during his opening monologue. Among them, he said, “The only thing [Trump’s] mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c–k holster.” Colbert’s mouth was blurred and the term was bleepded out for the broadcast, however.

"Hard to know" doesn't even touch the reality. Everyone, seemingly, can be offended, and I think that as this country becomes increasingly divided that these feelings are pushed to the fore. Additionally, as this country becomes increasingly demographically heterogeneous that ideas that were a given decades ago, are now seen as "wrong".

It's the Meathead/ Archie Bunker thing on a global scale..........

No doubt the "blamin' Dems" would not blame the video for her loss on You Tube resulting in the attack on Benghazi.

That 1,400 year old war's SNAFU lawsuit ain't over til it's actually over!

Obama's appointed judge dismisses lawsuit against former SOS..........appeals coming!

When I watched the "video" in question there were just 1,200 views right after the news of the "reason" for the terror attack on September 11, 2012. In obvious hindsight, that day since 9/11/01 should have always been reserved for extra vigilance or temporary evacuations of embassy personnel in the M.E. or Africa  There's always plenty of time to think about ordering that day off work, eh?

I've always marveled at the number of days-off government workers get anyway - all weekends and holidays, for example. Public school workers get far more than this, but that's another story. Coming from a healthcare background where the service is never closed, open 24/7/365, I wonder why our government isn't accessible to the people who are represented by the government, to the same degree.

But, given the propensity for terrorists to use certain dates as a reference point for their actions anyway, you'd think that this would be a no-brainer for certain locations, to if not take the day off, to at least increase security........

Dems Want Hillary To Leave Spotlight

Post by Riddick » 06-04-2017 02:03 PM

Democrats say they’d like Hillary Clinton to take a cue from former President Obama and step out of the spotlight.

They say her string of remarks explaining her stunning loss in November coupled with the public remarks blaming the Democratic National Committee for the defeat — which many took as also critical of Obama — are hurting the party and making the 2016 candidate look bitter.

The Hill interviewed more a dozen Democrats about Clinton’s remarks, including many staunch Clinton supporters and former aides.

They said they understood the need for Clinton to explain what happened in the election, and many also empathized with Clinton’s anger over former FBI Director James Comey’s handling of a probe into her private email server.

But they also unanimously said Clinton needs to rethink her public blaming tour.

“Good God, what is she doing?” one longtime aide wondered after watching Clinton at the Recode conference in California on Wednesday. “She's apparently still really, really angry. I mean, we all are. The election was stolen from her, and that's how she feels.

“But to go out there publicly again and again and talk about it? And then blame the DNC?” the aide wondered. "It's not helpful to Democrats. It's not helpful to the country, and I don't think it's helpful to her.”

Former Obama aides are among those scratching their heads over Clinton’s strategy.

At the Recode conference, she said she had inherited nothing from a “bankrupt” Democratic Party led by Obama for eight years.

“If she is trying to come across as the leader of the angry movement of what happened in 2016, then she's achieving it,” said one former senior aide to Obama. “But part of the problem she had was she didn't have a vision for the Democratic Party, and she needs to now take a break and let others come to the forefront.”

Clinton’s remarks come at a point in time where the Democratic Party feels somewhat leaderless after the eight years of Obama and the surprise Clinton defeat.

Longtime aides and advisers say she will not run for public office again, and that she feels liberated to finally speak her mind. They anticipate that Clinton will keep discussing the election, particularly to promote her upcoming book, which is expected to be published this fall.

“She's saying the same stuff she would say on a phone call with me,” said one former aide, who worked on the 2016 campaign. “And I think she'll continue to have a national dialogue on what needs to be fixed.”

Some Democrats say Clinton is better off laying low.

“I'm not sure there is a political strategy here,” said Democratic strategist Brad Bannon. “It sounds to me like more of a personal strategy.

“Complaining about an outcome and blaming everyone else is not a good political strategy,” Bannon added.

Jamal Simmons, a Democratic strategist, acknowledged some frustration among Democrats over Clinton’s remarks.

“Some people I know are just frustrated that it's happening,” he said. “She is a national hero and a great public servant and has the right to be upset."

But Simmons added that if she's going to discuss the loss, “it would be nice to hear a little more about the things she did wrong, which I believe mattered more than what she has discussed.”

Simmons, who worked for Al Gore's presidential campaign, said he is “intimately familiar” with the mourning that takes place after a narrow loss — particularly one that was decided on so-called hanging chads.

“When Al Gore lost the election, he went to Europe, gained weight and grew a beard,” Simmons said. “He walked away. And there's something to that.”

Whatever happened to "Just sailing off into the sunset"?

The sun never sets on the Clinton Foundation. :P

Riddick, in your pic of HRC above that tinfoil hat and twin forks antennae may have belonged to Al Gore during his days in Europe. Tinfoil worked wonders for him as everybody knows what he did next to make a living off Mum Earth.

When describing massive health issues, a common term used is "multifactorial", and this applies well to the "why" Hillary lost.

By all expectations, the election was her's to lose (and DID she ever.....).

Hillary can play the blame game, but at the end of the day, many of the excuses go directly back to her. She can blame Comey and the reinvestigation into the memos and her e-mail server, but if she hadn't made the conscious decision to have the server in the first place, it would have been a non-issue.

Also there is the view that she and the Clinton staff had concerning the law of using government (secure) e-mail which they all flaunted. If they had just obeyed the law, this would have bee a non-issue.

If Hillary had taken the voters of certain states seriously and courted their votes and made them feel important, or that she would at least try to listen to their concerns and work to improve their lives, then maybe more would have voted for her. But she dug-in her heels and handed over states that Obama carried and Trump's team swept-in and carried them, pushing him over the top.

HRC can complain all she wants, but at the end of the day, these are all decisions that she personally made.

Why Hillary Lost: The Shocking Truth!

Post by Riddick » 06-05-2017 01:55 PM

Personal choices lead to Hillary's loss.

If she hadn't lost Trump wouldn't have won

Therefore, it was her choice to put Trump in the WH

Their best hope becomes the Left's worst nightmare!

The fear and dread the Dems now face? Her decision

Thanks a lot lady
