Sources: Oprah Winfrey 'actively thinking' about running for president

Oprah Winfrey is "actively thinking" about running for president, two of her close friends told CNN Monday.

The two friends, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, talked in the wake of Winfrey's extraordinary speech at the Golden Globes Sunday night, which spurred chatter about a 2020 run.

Some of Winfrey's confidants have been privately urging her to run, the sources said.

One of the sources said these conversations date back several months. The person emphasized that Winfrey has not made up her mind about running.

A representative for Winfrey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.


The Democratic race for president won't officially begin until after the 2018 midterms, but many potential candidates are already jostling for position and making trips to Iowa.

Time will tell. As a commentator on MSNBC (albeit, a GOP strategist) just noted, once it was discovered with Obama that one can run for the presidency with a relatively thin file, then it just opened the box.........

I'm sure that,, as with Trump and his businesses, with Oprah, we'll hear more about Weight Watchers' O Magazine, etc., etc., etc.....

And look - more hopey change a comin'........

I agree with most of what you have said Kbot. There is no way that anybody can change the way things are. Revolution may inspire some change but I suspect it would only cause a huge loss of life and then back to business as usual. Starving the corps is the only way and there are ways it could be done but trying to get many millions of people on the same page is probably unrealistic, especially if they shut down the internet.

Oprah would certainly expand her wealth if she became Prez but I don't think she thinks of her wealth in the same egotistical fashion that Trump thinks of his. His wealth defines him. Oprah has for the most part stayed true to herself and is a helluva lot more trustable that Trump is.

If Trump lasts until 2020, he would have a full cardiac arrest if defeated by a woman and a Black woman at that. And some say politics is boring!

Twitter, less than 24 hours after her rousing speech during the "ladies in black" Golden Globe Awards show, was no place for a liberal fan of hers. Because the scandals had just begun starting with her old bud Harvey Weinstein!

Tweet after Tweet were 70% negative with her kissing his white stubble beard pics. The many accusations with multiple pics were heavy hitters!

If she runs in 2018 that's a fine thing but she'll really need Harvey perv proof hip boots instead of her Nikes!

I've been stumped by the sheer illogic of the Left on this story. One the one hand, whether its CNN, MSNBC or Entertainment Tonight, the expectations and results are exactly the same-namely, full throated support for Oprah running for the presidency.

Fair enough - but then I think about all the criticism hurled toward Trump and I have to ask myself, doesn't Oprah have these same "faults" that the Left criticizes Trump?

Let start the list: NO political experience, immensely wealthy, lots of business connections that may benefit from her being in office........

I mean, can't the Left be consistent in their criticism and direct it where its merited?

A constant criticism of Trump is his lack of experience with our nuclear forces. Does anyone think for a second that Oprah will fare any better? How has slinging Weight Watchers for over a decade now prepared her for conflicts with the likes of Russia, North Korea or ISIS?

I admit that the star power in and of itself can be a powerful attraction, but the Left criticized Trumps supporters for engaging n the exact same behavior..... albeit with an older, white non-female. Beyond being the anti-Trump (physically) I don't see the difference, especially when it comes to experience.

Tump has paved the way for know nothing presidents. The difference between him and Oprah is that he surrounded himself with fellow know nothing advisers and she would have more brains and appoint experienced people to advise her. Yuge difference in egos.
