Disinformation

Post by Captain Fantastic » 02-08-2007 09:38 PM

Is there an RSS feed for disinformation specialists out there? Some of the topics and responses posted here make it seem so.

Trust no one. The truth is out there.

...kinda goes along with the lines - repeat something often enough and soon everyone will believe it... whether its true or not....

or 'you can fool some of the people some of the time.....' etcetc...

Thanx for the linx, Cap

Here's three more ...

NOTE: With regards to these 3 links IMHO the more persistent, extreme, pervasive and/or excessive one's behavior is in fitting with the qualities described, the more likely the particular individual is a disinfo artist with a vested motive. Or, a horse's patoot. Or both.

A lot of excellent food for thought in those links.

'How to Spot a Disinfo Agent' was very revealing...

Now this I didn't know...

from Riddick's last (but not least) link,
How to Spot a Disinfo Agent:

8) BONUS TRAIT: Time Constant. Recently discovered, with respect to News Groups, is the response time factor. There are three ways this can be seen to work, especially when the government or other empowered player is involved in a cover up operation:

1) ANY NG posting by a targeted proponent for truth can result in an IMMEDIATE response. The government and other empowered players can afford to pay people to sit there and watch for an opportunity to do some damage. SINCE DISINFO IN A NG ONLY WORKS IF THE READER SEES IT - FAST RESPONSE IS CALLED FOR, or the visitor may be swayed towards truth.

2) When dealing in more direct ways with a disinformationalist, such as email, DELAY IS CALLED FOR - there will usually be a minimum of a 48-72 hour delay. This allows a sit-down team discussion on response strategy for best effect, and even enough time to 'get permission' or instruction from a formal chain of command.

3) In the NG example 1) above, it will often ALSO be seen that bigger guns are drawn and fired after the same 48-72 hours delay - the team approach in play. This is especially true when the targeted truth seeker or their comments are considered more important with respect to potential to reveal truth. Thus, a serious truth sayer will be attacked twice for the same sin.

Though its kinda nice to get an immediate response IMO...and I must admit, I'm guilty of #2 except there's no team discussion or chain of command involved...

Well, lunacat, y'know, with respect to this 'Bonus Trait' ?

I'll just say nice or not, I'd not take any leap and go so far as to suggest that the vast majority OF immediate responses COME from disinfo agents

Tho, so far's the immediate not-nice ones go (and for that matter, any posters or posts that potentially display a disinfo-type trait) I would tend to say, before I'd resoundingly be placing them in the 'disinfo' camp, for one thing? Personally, I would take into consideration their frequency and/or regularity, OVER a period of time, vis-à-vis "acute" v. "chronic". In the long-term, trait-wise, I'd profile the chronic-types before anyone else -

And even then, as I say, there's always the possibility there are simply some folks that ARE chronically akin TO equine tail-ends ! ( The resemblance can make it tough to tell 'em apart )

I think in order to classify someone a dis-info specialist, you have to determine if there is a motive. Who are they, what is their connection to the info they present, etc.

Most people that display many of the "traits" associated with dis-info are nothing more than common people who are parroting the dis-info that has deceived them.

Frankly, the vast majority of the major news media are dis-info specialists which have tremendous power (though that is on the decline) over the majority who rely on the major media for their news.

Actually, Rush Limbaugh's contract is somewhat higher.

_____

". . .
In July of 2001 Limbaugh signed a contract extension, reportedly worth $285 million, which would keep him on the air through 2009.
