Lawmakers propose fee on strip clubs
Proposal would direct proceeds to sex assault counseling, prevention
By Mike Ward
AUSTIN --Texas' controversial topless tax may be headed for an encore.
If two lawmakers have their way, patrons at topless bars and strip clubs could soon be paying a cover charge to fund sexual assault prevention and counseling programs. And sexually oriented businesses might be paying a ,000 annual registration fee, as well.
Bills being drafted by Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, and Rep. Ellen Cohen, D- Bellaire, would mandate the cover charge, which they estimate could generate as much as million a year. And West said he wants to require the registration fee, which initial estimates indicate could raise another million a year.
"We want to use some of this additional revenue to fund sexual assault programs, and I'm also exploring using some to pay for uncompensated indigent health care," West said late this afternoon. "I think this is a good place to look for additional revenue."

Topless Tax for Sexual Assault Counseling & Prevention

Would the $ go to sexual assault programs or "sexual assault programs"?

Bill Moyers' documentary NOW next week will discuss Texas Governor Perry's Executive Order requiring the HPV vaccination for girls -- an innoculation against human pupilomavirus to control cervical cancer in young girls.
There's no such thing as a Democratic cancer or a Republican cancer, but there can be a Texas solution. I fully support Rick Perry on this issue, and I am asking you to do the same. I hope, for the sake of women everywhere, that Texans can set an example for the rest of the country by voting to do the right thing. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Chris Bell

cherry -- ya and in MO the gambling boats were sold with the idea of money going to schools -- you know where it got put - general funds being used for everything else. Kinda like the tobacco settlement funds -- suppose to go for medical care for smoke related.... and under the accounting office - couldn't account for 3/4 of money received.... (thats several hundred million so far). And what could be accounted for - well very little went for purpose it was received.
If it lives, breathes or even if its land - gov't will figure some way to TAX it...
Of course it could legitimize some rather shady areas..

AS for the vaccine - being mandatory - it is unless the parents object.
