A college football or basketball coach was the highest-paid public employee in 39 of the 50 states in 2016. Only four of these coaches earned less than a million dollars last year.

In fact, the average annual compensation package for coaches at major universities is estimated to be $1.18 million.

The disclaimer that those not working as sports coaches must work in healthcare was difficult to prove from the article as when you expand the list what you get are more college and university coaches.

Which again begs the question - why have college tuition costs risen so high so quickly?
