‘This is crazy,’ sobs Utah hospital nurse as cop roughs her up, arrests her for doing her job

It's been bad enough working in healthcare as patients think nothing of smacking nurses around - I guess that they feel entitled, or that, "It just comes with the job" and the service being provided.

But, THIS is a whole new thing. And scary..........

This is crazy,’ sobs Utah hospital nurse as cop roughs her up, arrests her for doing her job

By all accounts, the head nurse at the University of Utah Hospital’s burn unit was professional and restrained when she told a Salt Lake City police detective he wasn’t allowed to draw blood from a badly injured patient.

The detective didn’t have a warrant, first off. And the patient wasn’t conscious, so he couldn’t give consent. Without that, the detective was barred from collecting blood samples — not just by hospital policy, but by basic constitutional law.

Still, Detective Jeff Payne insisted that he be let in to take the blood, saying the nurse would be arrested and charged if she refused.

Nurse Alex Wubbels politely stood her ground. She got her supervisor on the phone so Payne could hear the decision loud and clear. “Sir,” said the supervisor, “you’re making a huge mistake because you’re threatening a nurse.”

Payne snapped. He seized hold of the nurse, shoved her out of the building and cuffed her hands behind her back. A bewildered Wubbels screamed “help me” and “you’re assaulting me” as the detective forced her into an unmarked car and accused her of interfering with an investigation.

The Case Of The Defective Detective?

Post by Riddick » 09-01-2017 01:20 PM

"Warrant? We don' need no steenking warrant, what we need is the freaking blood sample! -

And constitutional law? You think that's basic? What's basic is first things first. We need what we need, we get it we can deal with the details later.

As for hospital policy, yah, fact is you may need it before too long - I mean, keep up this crapola, guess your premiums are all paid up! -

Think it's us making life difficult? What it is is you making life difficult for yourself. Do yourself a favor. Cooperate or we put the force into enforcement."

Fact is, at that point a cop may be revealing their own self-importance issues, personality flaws taking being a "DICK" about things to a whole 'nother level -

You might say it's an instance of getting all too carried away with themselves??

Washington Post hates cops, if you will read the past "sensational" issues. And sure enough, you can always find cops to hate. They(The Post) are also highly into" distraction" pieces. Just a hunch on my part. The FBI involvement in ANTIFA, acts, is like a "home" free for the hate group. Look at every thing and trust nothing, for your own mental health..........

FBI, DHS: Watch Out For More Antifa Attacks

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warned violent attacks by the radical group antifa have increased, and more assaults could be on the way.

The DHS and the FBI have concluded that far-left “anarchist extremist” groups were mainly responsible for inciting violence at a number of public rallies, under the cause of opposing fascism, according to a Friday Politico report.

“It was in that period [as the Trump campaign emerged] that we really became aware of them,” a senior law enforcement official told Politico. “These antifa guys were showing up with weapons, shields and bike helmets and just beating the **** out of people. They’re using Molotov cocktails, they’re starting fires, they’re throwing bombs and smashing windows.”

The "Tower of Babel" is working over time. Sad deal that when you Have the "Opinion" bug (like we all do), and it has become a case of "pick your poison", no other options currently available. :?

Really Doka????????

OK, how about the Salt Lake City paper: http://www.sltrib.com/news/2017/08/31/u ... s-victim/

or, The Desert News (another Utah paper) http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8656 ... ficer.html

or Fox......... http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/09/01/ut ... shows.html

Could go on, but you get the point. Look, normally, I'm pro-cop. I see the local police nearly everyday at work and have had my local police in my house over the years. Had a cousin who was police captain. Have a lot of respect for cops. But this just was way outta line........... This guy was frustrated by an agreement between the local police department and the hospital. If this nurse had just allowed this guy to illegally obtain a blood sample she could have lost her license to practice and possibly her home as a result. She would have left herself open to a lawsuit from the patient or his survivors since she would have clearly had violated hospital policy and wouldn't have had a legal leg to stand on. In those cases, where an employee violates a hospital policy, hospital lawyers have told me that they will absolutely not defend the employee.

This guys was way outta line and essentially committed assault and battery and I hope they throw the book at him. All he had to do was listen to what he was being told and instead he freaked out.

It is Riddick - ALL this guy had to do was follow the agreement between his own department and the hospital: namely get a warrant. The patient clearly wasn't going anywhere as he was in bad shape. Either the cop didn't know his own department's policies, didn't care, or was on a power trip.

The policy/ agreement is there for a reason. Hospital staff can(and do) get sued for assault and battery. People go into healthcare to take care of people - certainly not to get rich as is the common perception. It's bad enough that people injured during drive-by's increasingly have members of the local gangs come into the ER or inpatient units looking for people. It's not like the patient was trying to escape or was an immediate flight risk.

Hospital staff are now required to have active-shooter training it's gotten that bad. Now cops are beating-up staff..........IF the local PTB don't swiftly charge and convict this dolt it'll send a message to nurses that the country will regret.........

Officer Arrested Utah Nurse After He Was Told Not To

Post by Riddick » 09-10-2017 02:49 AM

A Utah police officer whose rough arrest of a hospital nurse has drawn condemnation put the woman in handcuffs even after investigators told him not to worry about getting a blood sample he was seeking from a patient, the chief whose department asked for it said Friday.

Officers initially wanted the sample as a routine part of a car crash investigation, said Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen. But after Salt Lake City Police detective Jeff Payne was told he'd need a warrant or formal consent to get it, colleagues told him that they would pursue another strategy.

"He simply said, 'Don't worry about it. We'll go another way,'" Jensen said.

Payne nevertheless insisted. When nurse Alex Wubbels held her ground based on the University of Utah hospital's policy, Payne dragged her screaming from the hospital in handcuffs. Salt Lake City police apologized and put Payne on paid leave after dramatic video of the July 26 arrest surfaced.

Police spokeswoman Christina Judd said an internal review will look at the directions Payne received and how he responded.

Prosecutors also opened a criminal investigation that widened Thursday when the district attorney asked the FBI to look into possible civil rights violations.

Payne's lawyer, Greg Skordas, declined to comment Friday.

Looks like Payne, Is in for a lot pain. Appears Payne's Boss originally sent the right" fool" for the errand. Good for the nurse who held her ground ,doing the right thing, something you don't often see, these days. Will be interesting case to watch.

Will surely be Doka - this case has a lot of features worth watching, such as the role of hospitals in law enforcement, essentially compelling staff to act outside their sphere of knowledge with the benefit of legal counsel, the role of police in making demands over and above of what has been contractually documented in agreements between organizations, the protections and recourses medical staff have as incidences of assaults skyrocket nationwide. Also, will police depts be required to step back from the "paid administrative leave" that essentially keeps unscrupulous police employed where non-police staffers would most certainly have been fired...... Sure there are more issues out there being explored.
