The short-range ballistic missile North Korea launched Monday traveled an estimated 248 miles, splashing down within Japan's exclusive economic zone, an area of sea where commercial ships are known to operate, according to statements from both the Japanese government and the South Korean military.

South Korea and Japan immediately issued strong protests, with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe promising "concrete action" in response to the test, and South Korean defense chiefs saying the North would face "strong punishment from our military."

Despite that rhetoric, the allies have not given North Korea any "red lines" which it cannot cross or face a military strike. Even if a military response was considered, the repercussions could be catastrophic.

Any pre-emptive military strike on North Korea would put South Korean and Japanese civilian populations, as well as US military installations within those countries, at risk for a North Korean counterstrike. Some estimates put 25 million civilians at risk in the Seoul metropolitan area alone.

Current economic sanctions imposed by the United Nations and others seem to have done nothing to slow North Korea's missile program. Analysts say all of North Korea's tests, successful or not, provide information that help bring it closer to its goal of building a missile that could reach the US.

North Korea has said its missile testing is in reaction to threats against it by the South, the United States and Japan.

Ok, so Russia will have anti anti-missile hypersonic jets. But does that need mean a new arms race with the US is inevitable?

Even if it does, what's the concern? It's not like Hillary is Commander In Chief and Democrats control Congress. Truly, the only thing we have to fear is an anti-military mentality.

That said, even in the unlikely event everything goes to hell? There's nothing wrong with being prepared. We'll know when Ivanka Trump leads the way with radiation suits being the latest fashion trend.

In any event, don't worry, be happy. America WILL BE GREAT again - Und DAT is all da people need to know!

Mt. Mantap in North Korea tops off the surrounding peaks and valleys where ALL of Kim's nuke tests have taken place. The mountainous area is leaking radiation and last night's radio news on conservative shows and Coast to Coast AM included this concern.

Now Chinese scientists are speaking up and here is that news that hopefully will make a difference in Kim's nuclear race to threaten the whole health of this spinning, life giving planet!

Gulp! Thanks for the link kbot. Satellite night views comparing South Korea to North Korea show SK lit up all over and NK dark over 95% of their Dear Leader's lands!

Eating grass and select weeds is what most do daily and Putin knows his weapons 'n big buy'n neighbors so well.

So we can't say NK is concerned about losing juice nationwide or cooler/freezer stored foods.

Let's pray China will convince NK to stop polluting China with radiation. But the mountain will always leak radiation and it's too late now for a protest, as the 6 nuke tests awaits # 7!

It's worrisome MK. Depending on who's analyzing the data, mortality rates could go to over 90%. Most people will lose their jobs as electricity will be out. No gas for cars, and if you bank electronically, you're outta luck......... Kiss medications god bye and learn to live like it's 1850. Safe travels MK - my Dad and father-in-law used to tell me stories about scouting the rail lines looking for coal/ coke. When they were kids the mills were still operating and there were freight trains coming and going and the old Fall River Line was sailing with everyone from the rich as powerful such as US presidents and other politicians for visits to the area and the Newport elites for trips to their "cottages", to immigrants travelling from Ellis Island SE New England looking for work - it was quite a trip. For the time, the side-wheeled steamers were quite elegant and provided the quickest route between New York and Boston with connecting trains in Fall River. We must be doing something wrong MK..........

US and local Massachusetts history is #1 on your plate, with your many good notations we've seen here and elsewhere. Your family's experience during coal/coke picking times were a first hand insight I'd never heard from any American! But it happened as fact.
