Thanks tiffany yes the birds are singing here too

I wanted to go up so badly but am terrified of heights! So I stayed safely on the ground, drinking my wonderful English dark ale, looking over the Thames til dark when the Houses of Parliament lights came on. What a sight! With Big Ben and all! After beeboppin around for weeks and no sleep and trying to cram everything in, it was a great way to relax before the "crammed in like sardines" flight home.

Before we left England in the late 50's my Dad took us to all the great sites in England just to make sure that we saw them in case we never got back. In those days we were able to see the torture chambers deep down in the Tower of London and guess what? That was the memory that stayed with me. My older brother made sure that he explained to us littler ones, in detail, how all the aparatus worked (body stretching things) and we had nightmares for weeks.

30 St Mary Axe is a building in the City of London, London, United Kingdom. It is informally known as "The Gherkin", and sometimes as The Swiss Re Tower, Swiss Re Building or Swiss Re Centre, after its owner and principal occupier. It is 590 ft (180 m) tall. The building is famous for its daring architecture by Pritzker-prize winner, Sir Norman Foster and ex-partner Ken Shuttleworth.

The Gherkin

Looks a bit out of place against the skyline,A _ UK . It reminds me more of an ICBM than a pickle ! I guess I have to be there.;)
Have you noticed how people's intellectual curiosity declines sharply the moment

London is beautiful! Awesome pics, AlienUK. London and Japan are the top two places on my list of places to go before I die. That big pickle building looks like an engineering marvel, the curvature is different all the way up. How long did it take to finish that? And 590 feet - wow - that's 180 feet taller than ... GODZILLA! :D

"Gherkin". Construction began in March 2001, the building was topped out in November 2002 and officially opened for business in early 2004
