Whats for Dinner ?

Post by SETIsLady » 03-12-2007 05:14 PM

I have a heck of time coming up with new ideas for dinner. Yahoo has come up with "Whats for Dinner" . Its 7 meals with recipes for the week.

Take Out.:D Kidding aside looks like some great recipes, except if you are a vegetarian like I am it is difficult sometimes, I don't eat dairy or pasta either.

The warmer the weather gets, the easier it is for me. I usually just grab some elk or deer out of the freezer in the AM and chuck it on the BBQ in the evening along with some kind of veggie in a can.
A simple, healthy meal that's quick and easy to make.
Oh, I almost forgot - I pour terriyaki on just about every meat I cook.

Biker, veggies in a can is not healthy, but I like terriyaki sauce on one of favorite food, anything Japanese or Chinese.

Get fresh veggies, they are great grilled.:)

Oh, I agree, fresh is the way to go. However, I don't generally get 'em fresh untill my garden starts producing. I tend to grill a lot of corn in the husk and potatoes with onions wrapped in foil.
Other veggies such as peas I tend to get in a can.

Ah, I love frozen veggies, but I live alone so it's a lot easier to open up a can and set it on top of the grill. Fewer dishes to wash (saves water) and I eat 'em right out of the can.
I usually have one plate to wash plus a fork and knife. I drink my milk from the jug.
Color me lazy...

Stir fried veggies and rice (real rice, not that fake minute rice stuff) with a scrambled egg (omelet style) placed over the top and smothered in catsup is good. Adding some shrimp to the fry doesn't seem to bother me like adding an elk or deer or humon or anything else I suspect would cry out "don't kill and eat me" would. I eat a lot of potatoes and noodles and beans, there are countless dishes you can make from them things. I'm not big on soups unless they are thick and hearty such as pea or bean soup. Then there's all kinds of things you can make from grains such as breads and muffins and cakes and more. When I'm hungry, I start at the seasoning rack first, decide what flavor I feel like tonight, then I plan around that. Oh, and then you have all your fruits - endless possibilities there too. Usually, I'll have trouble deciding between two dishes than trying to come up with one. Stay away from red meats unless you love to succumb to cancer one day - in fact avoid any form of food containing fried blood unless you love cancers (unless you think the price is worth it as I guess a lot do).

added:
I drink my milk from the jug.
No kidding, when I was young, I drank it right from the cow, cream and all. Well, I didn't like it that warm, so it usually spent the night in the fridge with most of the cream skimmed off in the morning. Both my grandmothers use to churn butter and I remember eating that stuff by the spoonful !

Oh, my favorite sandwich as a kid was a slice of onion between two pieces of bread covered with real mayo and a dash of pepper.

So Div, since *you* brought it up, what is the difference between a shrimp that once ate, swam and procreated and an elk or deer?

Judgement call I guess - the vibes I pick up from it .. I don't sense any objection from the shrimp, but those other things, like elk and the deer, I sense a 'no, don't hurt me' coming from them. You don't feel that? HOPE then you never do if you don't want to.

Thanks for the link, SETIsLady
Just did a quick scan of the recipes and saw a few that I would like to try.

Dinner tonight is clam chowder made with razor clams my teenagers dug last summer (I canned 'em), salad, rosemary bread.

Still cold enough here for chowders, soups and stews.

White rice is all starch and no food value, if you want to eat real rice buy brown rice, takes longer to cook but worth it, has a nutty flavor.

I can't argue with your vibe thing - you own it. We all eat and are eaten in one way or another in our individual eventualities.
More power to ya...I'm gonna go tend to my elk roast in my crock pot.

Div, have you ever had to clean whole shrimp? They've got huge heads and big black eyeballs.

I've cleaned more than I care to remember, it is not a pretty sight.

The truth is you need to eat living things to live. The only question is where you draw the line. For me it is pets and primates.

As for yummy food. This time of year I start to eat a lot of fish. Pan seared sord fish. Salmon with a mango chuttnie.
