I was think of the Giant Sphinx Moth (Cocytius antaeus)

... but I might be wrong. If it is, it's unusual.

I've seen another in the maple tree in front of our home, and I do think it's the Polyphemus Moth. The two "eyes" on the back of the wings seem to be in the right location.

In Palm Springs this week and one of the neighbors is an Entomologist and he has seen Swallowtails around his citrus tree as big as his wifes hand. I began noticing the Swallowtails around our citrus tree and altho not as big as my hand they are for some reason huge, much larger than those I see at home.

This would be the Zebra Swallowtail.

Also I might add the lizards are larger here as well - when they get to running up on their legs they remind me of miniature Komodos - seriously.

Not much. I won't make that error again. There is a fig tree...

But the Raccoon is eathing the figs - in the midlde of the night.
