Living in a MAD Magazine

By Ray DiLorenzo

I admit, I occasionally read Mad magazine as a kid. Every feature in it was strange and weird. I was transported to a parallel world of the absurd, the nonsensical. That was, I suppose, part of the attraction. I know I didn’t join their ranks because, in spite of the entertainment value, I still, even now, think it was weird. Not so for millions of others.

I scan about 50 or 60 news articles a week, mostly to keep in touch with what is going on in order to sound intelligent when I write my own articles. The problem today is I sometimes feel like I’m living in a Mad magazine.

The mainstream media reports this stuff as progressive, a higher order of morality. The conservative press reports it as it is, a degeneration of our culture. Even Rush Limbaugh commented that…“Our nation’s sanity depends on people avoiding the drive-by [mainstream] media.”

Let me share with you some of my everyday reading. My notes as RD:

From Daily Wire: High School Mulls Removing George Washington Murals Because they ‘Traumatize’ Students.

From Flipboard: Students Dance Around Ground Mock Cemetery for the Unborn: “Look, there’s Mine Right There,”...chant “Stop Hey, Hey, What’s that Sound? All of the Fetuses in the ground!”

From Daily Wire: Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen Eats KFC, Carries Chicken Statue in Hearing to Mock ‘Chicken Attorney General William Barr.’

From Washington Examiner: Journalism School Poynter Publishes List of ‘Unreliable’ News. Turns Out the List is Unreliable.

From Fox News: Mayor Pete Buttigieg and His Husband Get Time Cover. Pete Buttigieg: TIME Magazine Cover of Me and My Husband Gives America Hope. (RD: ????)

From Washington Times: Alabama Dem Rep. John Rogers: Donald Trump, Jr. ‘Evidently Retarded,’...His Mother Should Have Aborted Him’

It's A World, World, World, World MAD

I read Mad magazine voraciously as a kid, teen and early young adult. I'd credit a lot of my satirical talents to perusing the graphic articles penned and drawn by its talented staff, "The Usual Gang Of Idiots" as they called themselves.

Exposing individual and institutionalized folly wherever they found it, the stories were funny and outrageous. Today, life imitates art. The players have the outrageous part down pat. Thing is when it's fiction, it's funny. In reality, not so much.
A mind should not be so open that the brains fall out; however, it should not be so closed that whatever gray matter which does reside may not be reached. ART BELL

I was a MAD fan too Riddick and your new post gets five stars *****!

It's always a better plan to get real news but the lack of reality by the a-fore mentioned and more of them to come is a done deal! :realmad:
