Chatting with some LA area friends on chat last evening - they said damage was minimal due to the building codes being so much better.

About the only damages that were being reported (in addition to water lines) were some older buildings losing exterior bricks, couple side roads that had problems. (Though one guy said the roads were no more damaged than when mud slides damage roads.)

Another reported that some people stated a lot of damage to garden urns and small standing statues, and some cracked swimming pools. (?)

Reading articles - said that one of the judge type shows - people evacuated due to shaking.

Thank goodness it wasn't worse.

Spoke to several folks down in Southern California. One friend who was on I-5 didn't even feel it. Another in the Hollywood Hills area said if she felt it, but wasn't sure until she saw the water in her pool forming waves, another in the same area called it a "C ticket" at best. The friends in Malibu were grateful there was no tsunami warning.

The ex, who is on tour, said his wife didn't feel it up in Santa Barbara.

HJ, Which one? With all the kids jumping on me all the time its hard to tell the difference.

I feel a little off on my balance once in awhile and check the eq site and usually am right on. Want an eerie report. Told the wifey the night before we need to do a drill with the kiddos in case... no lie stick a needle in my eye.

Next time I get a feeling about lottery numbers I running up to the liquor store!

Stay safe vigo....I remember an aftershock that knocked off the coach onto the floor, had fallen asleep.....that was after the 89 World Series Quake......can't say I miss living in Berkeley....

TOKYO, Japan — Two strong earthquakes rattled Asia on Thursday, triggering alerts for a tsunami that harmlessly lapped Japan's northern coast and another in Indonesia that didn't materialize but briefly sent residents fleeing to high ground.

The more powerful of the quakes, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 hit at 9:21 a.m. off Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido at a depth of about 19 miles (30 kilometers), the country's meteorological agency said.

Big Earthquake Rattles Aleutian Islands AP
National News ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Nov. 2) -
The U.S. Geological Survey says a significant earthquake has jolted the ocean floor near Alaska's remote Aleutian Islands.
The agency says in a preliminary report that the magnitude-6.1 quake struck the seismically active but sparsely populated island chain at 4:49 a.m. Sunday.
