HURRICANE SEASON 2009 - The Official Thread
Pirates,
I now declare The 2009 Official Hurricane Thread open. Let us take note that we are a mere three weeks away from June 1 -- the official start of hurricane season in the "Americas" part of the world.
Remember that last year, hurricanes began forming prior to June 1, thus, the (slightly) early posting of the thread this year.
National Hurricane Preparedness Week will be May 24-30, so those in harm's way will want to review their plans, restock supplies, and "prepare."
The National Hurricane Center has added made "important changes" in its text and graphic services -- you might want to check that out.
Free tracking charts for the Eastern Pacific, Western Atlantic, and full Atlantic regions are available from the NHC as well.
This year's storm names:
Ana
Bill
Claudette
Danny
Erika
Fred
Grace
Henri
Ida
Joaquin
Kate
Larry
Mindy
Nicholas
Odette
Peter
Rose
Sam
Teresa
Victor
Wanda
My intuition tells me that Erika, Fred, Grace, Henri, and Kate might be the worst of the bunch. Perhaps some of you may sense something about certain names as well.
Let's stay tightly on topic within this thread, please.

Sure do. We've already had some serious storms -- last night I thought my roof was going to be ripped off.
How's it been in Florida?
I believe that by the end of May the waters off the coasts of the Carolinas will already have risen above last year's temps at that time. Everyone has been so worried about tornadoes that hurricane season is slipping up behind everyone "on little cat's paws."
I haven't rec'd my test email from the NHC, but will post when I do.

Joanie, Joanie, Joanie!:D
I hope you and SL are wrong and that you will have a fairly mild hurricane season, said the woman who knows little about hurricanes.
Pack in that chocolate though, post MD sales should be good for needed preparations.

Hi Race, everyone . . . thank you for your posts.
Yep, I'll bet that "Bill" makes a brief appearance around the D.C. area and winds down in Maryland.
We'll see how it goes, PW. Not into chocolate as much as I used to be, but I'll find another vice to get me through the potential turbulence
SL -- you are where we were last year. Rationing of water, lawns drying up, no water served in restaurants. It's a bad feeling. It can either be a blessing or a curse during the storm season. Hope that changes for you -- soon.
Let's see where this season will take us....
