It was a 5.0 53 km north of here and 18 km deep.

A highway overpass collapsed close to the epicenter but only minor damage here in town and no reported injuries so far.

According to the site on the link below, we get an earthquake in Ottawa every 5 days, but they are too small to be felt.

This is the most active zone in the country.

Link has a map showing all the quake zones.

From the article in the Ottawa Sun - seems there was a significant amount of structural damage.

We had a 5 pt something here in Seattle back a few years and did not get that much damage in it. The 6.9 that hit a couple years after that caused extensive damage. The Nisqually Quake.

18 km is a fairly shallow quake - and they cause more damage.

The damage in Ottawa was minor. A couple chimneys collapsed and some glass panes came down but no injuries.

The big damage was in Buckingham and further north. The town of Gracefield 100 km north of here had major cracks in buildings.

We had an aftershock of 3.0 but I didn't feel anything.

Word has it from the U.S. geological guys in California that we can expect a worse one within a week...........

I had a revelation.

St. Jean Baptiste is approaching and this was just Quebec's latest attempt to separate from Canada.:D
