Its snowing heavily right now, to be 44° Wed, so we will flood, no doubt. The ice build up is 4 to 5 inches on most surfaces, including roof, makes nervous !

My hope is Wash DC gets 20 below and 40 ft of snow by Friday

12 below zero. That's the low forecast for this first day of the new year hereabouts. Our projected low for tomorrow is 3 above, the first day since the near on nation spanning snap began Christmas Day it'll be non-negative. They predict a high of 32 for us Sunday, but otherwise all frigid temps 'til then

As it is, it's been so cold across so much of the country ...

Refrigerators are redundant.

Open the door to the house, the light goes on.

Bake a cake, set it out to cool, 10 minutes later it's frosted.

False teeth chatter yet they are still in the glass.

Cars won't run and noses won't stop.

It's not a rock rattling around in your shoe, it's your toe.

Cows threatened to strike unless they got bras to cover their udders.

A flock of chickens went to a KFC begging to get fried up.

Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks are serving coffee on a stick.

Instead of flashing it, exhibitionists just hold up pictures.

Walking out the door, it's like automatic botox.

Apathetic folks are turning to politics JUST FOR all the hot air.

People's shadows are freezing to the sidewalks.

They're still trying to chip the dogs off the fire hydrants.

Last but not least, IT'S BEEN SO COLD that...

When Al Gore's Nobel prize was knocked off the shelf and hit the floor, it shattered to tiny bits!

Hi all - sorry for having fallen off the radar screen. Got a new boss, so........... the past couple of months have been more stressful than usual.

We're expecting 12 + inches of snow tonight and into tomorrow. Boston stations say the storm will hit after 1AM, Providence says it will hit around 6AM...... no one knows for sure, except that there'll be a LOT of the white stuff. Hopefully people will stay off the roads.

We're trying to reschedule cases and allocate staffing.

I'm glad we had the trees in our yard taken down as we've already been having power outages the past few weeks just with the wind, snow and ice that we've gotten so far. After I leave work today gotta go on the required New England "bread and milk" run at the supermarket. I haven't figured out whether this is a strictly New England phenomenon or if this is seen across the country as well, but you can go into a grocery store and they'll be completely wiped out of bread and milk......... amazing.

We've had sub-zero temps for a stretch of days now and a high rate of gas line and water line failures. There was a neighborhood on the outskirts of Boston that had a gas line rupture. Because of the temps, the gas company didn't want to shut off the gas, so they let it burn for a few days while they worked to by-pass the line and safely fix the break. We've had water mains crack with flooding filling basements and flooding streets, multi-family triple decker fires leaving homes covered in ice.

Hurricane force winds are expected with this storm tonight into tomorrow, so this certainly has the potential for widespread power outages. I plan to bring-in as much wood as I can to keep the fires going and hope the pipes don't freeze........

Forecast for today - high tides around noon, which might be when the storm is heightening. Coastal flooding with evacuations of coastal communities. Waves of southern Massachusetts into Buzzards Bay in the 15 - 20 foot range with wave height over 50 feet just past Nantucket. High wind warnings with hurricane strength winds. Snow falling at rates of 1-3"/ hour. With the high winds and wet snow, power outages are expected. They changed the amounts here in SE Mass from 8' forecast last night to 16-plus with this morning's forecast. Got the fires burning and all stocked-up with whiskey.

I was curious what was going on in the Arctic, not easy to find much, that is not a "Model" Did fined this that says it is a jet stream model. Way up at the top, I'm only assuming is the Arctic with a large black area representing -40° and lower. I don't have any actual figures for comparison so this is really a blind post. My thought is that the icy cold Originates somewhere up there to be brought down by the jet stream, but I don't know? Since THEY are saying "Warmest Arctic Temperatures, EVER" . WHERE IS THE COLD AIR COMING FROM? Any body got some ideas here?

https://weather.gc.ca/jet_stream/index_e.html

Heck, even I could fumble around and make a "MODEL" that Riddick and Kbot should be putting on swimsuits and going on a picnic.......the cold is just Your Delusion.

Who knows - I just came-in after digging out and so far with a little over three hours of snowfall, we have 9" in my driveway. The local news out of Boston has the seawall in Scituate being breeched with water and ice rushing into the town. There's flooding on Rt 128, which is the major highway circling Boston.

I've been flipping between WBZ in Boston and WJAR in Providence for updates:

Just heard on my scanner that local police are reporting that their cars are overheating while trying to navigate.......

Like Cold? Snow Too? Mother Nature Has You Covered

It appears winter is indeed refusing to go away and might decide to get worse again, with the potential for more snow and record-breaking low temperatures in the US.

We would blame Punxsutawney Phil for seeing his shadow in February, but we're well beyond 6 weeks now. Now we're just angry. FULL STORY
