My point is in agreement with yours. 'The People' are abdicating their responsibility and their power.
The mechanics of 'voting in' elected representatives as practiced in this country is an extremely weak form of control of our government.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the
worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend
more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children,
are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly
children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could
not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an
abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses;
and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in
her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by
his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son,
Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

Been about a year and a half sense I wrote anything in this thread. Time to do so.
Being brutally honest.
There's a two edged sword if there ever was one.
I believe in being honest, because it's so much easier than trying to remember a lie. But sometimes it has it's draw backs.
For example, my older step-daughter and he hubby have, over the last 2 or 3 years, gone from living in a nice apartment and having two vehicles, to living in a camper and no car at all. She don't work and he works part time for cash under the table.
It isn't because of the economy. It's because of bad judgment and laziness. He is, to be brutally honest, a lazy bum. and so is she. They put themselves in this position.
Today she asked me for my opinion on what they should do about it. Bad Idea. I told her they both need to find real jobs close to where they're staying. If they don't like the jobs, save some money, get a car, and get another apartment. Then find jobs they DO want to do.
I got the distinct impression that my brutally honest was NOT what she wanted to hear. Well, she shouldn't have asked for it.
Cuz this old guy calls it like he sees it.

It's hard to believe it's been three years and three months since I started this new career as a Corrections Officer. A lot of things have changed in that time . Both good and bad. Professionally and personally.
I've moved up to C O IV. with no disciplinary snags along the way. That's a good thing. I work 95% of the time in the kitchen, know most of the kitchen workers by name and cell number, and have their respect. Also good. Twice I got snitched out by two of my "Fellow Officers". No big deal. I should have known better. Not so good.
My marriage fell apart. Not because of the job. We just kinda drifted apart and became more like room mates than anything else. So that's not really good but not bad ether. S#&t happens. I've had my own apartment in Gatesville for over a year now. One bedroom place. 325 bucks a month. Hard to beat that. Never had an electric bill over 130.
I've found that I like being on my own.
One more payment and I'll have a new shotgun.
Bought a backpack, some camping gear, and some dehydrated camp meals. They're cheaper than MRE's. Next month I'm getting a compact lightweight two person tent. And more meals.
You see I've had a feeling, for years, that very bad times are coming. Times that will make the Great Depression seem like a picnic in the park. That feeling is getting very strong and I've been procrastinating instead of preparing. I can't put it off anymore.
I don't know when the economic bottom is going to fall out, I just know it will.
Keep your eyes and ears on the Fed Reserve. When they release a statement saying, in effect, that "everything is just fine and the dollar has never been stronger", be afraid. That will mean we have a few days to a couple of months( at most ) before the dollar bottoms out and all hell breaks loose.
The fat lady has left the dressing room and is heading for the stage
And that, my friends, ain't good at all.
