Biker, I am so sorry. I know the pain you are feeling.
Solace
From the silence of your pain I heard my name
and on the wings of light I have come
to see the sadness in your eyes
that cry without tears
Can you see me, I am here
I will always be near you
to calm your shattered heart
and to make you smile at the memories
Do you feel me, perhaps a soft brush of fur
You ache to believe it's real
but you are afraid to hope
You brush away a strand of hair
But it was I, whispering.....
I am only here for but a moment
The silver thread gently quivers
I will leave behind my love in a dream
When you awaken, and without really knowing why
Your heart will know at last
That it is all right, for now
to say good-bye

Biker, My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your bud tomorrow. I lost my dog Julia when she was 12 years old. She slept on the foot of my bed until the day she died. She chased away other dogs and kept the bullies at bay. She was a great friend.
One of my favorite books when I was younger was "Where the Red Fern Grows." It reminded me of my dog Julia. I still think of her and she died about 25 years ago.
Take care.

Well, better late than never, I suppose... Joe Quinn.

When God made the earth and sky
The flowers and the trees
He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees
And when His work was finished
Not one was quite the same
He said “I’ll walk this earth of mine
and give each one a name”
And so He traveled land and sea
And everywhere He went
A little creature followed Him
Until its strength was spent
When all were named upon the earth
And in the sky and sea
The little creature said
“Dear Lord, there’s no name left for me”
The Father smiled and softly said
“I’ve left you to the end.
I’ve turned my name back to front
and called you DOG, my friend”
The flowers and the trees
He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees
And when His work was finished
Not one was quite the same
He said “I’ll walk this earth of mine

Thank you one and all for your well wishes. I held him on the vet's table, lying on his blanket, cradling his big ol' head in the crook of my right arm, my left hand scratching behind his ears, speaking to him the entire time. I told him over and over again how much I love him and whispered that he would be seeing Olaf The Fat and Noakie The Bitch again very soon and the Pack would all be together again.
He was a bit afraid as the needle was going in until I asked him to trust me one more time...he seemed to understand.
Just before he lost conciousness, I told him that *I* would see him soon, then he was gone.

Tears on the keyboard, pain in the heart.
You and Harn had this one experience that Dooey and I were thankfully spared; it would have done me in and I dreaded it from her puppyhood, such was my love and admiration for this courageous runt.
But it was not to be; my girl struggled daily with the duality of her incredible canine nature and her astounding devotion to me. Both were so strong but she felt invincible. In the end, she succumbed to her doggieness. So soon, oh Dear Lord, too soon!
Harn, after you unite with Noakie and Olaf, please go and find my Dooey! She will be alone and ferocious and you may not sense her terror. Please take her in as friend and running-mate.
On this side everybody thought her totally fearless; only I understood that she was terrified of everything. It was our secret, and we watched each other's backs. Her courage was unmatched in canine history; she turned the "doggie world" on its head as she excelled in every endeavor we undertook.
Harn, she is so alpha, she may frighten you at first, but she doesn't know any other way to be. She needs somedog to lick inside her ears at night and curl up on her or under her, sighing with weariness.
She is alone and misses me and Boudin and Birdie Rouge. Please find her and let her run with you three! She will take you on new and wondrous adventures every day.
Your Biker will be there soon enough, as will I, to run in heaven's forests with my girl again, terrorizing the bunnies.
