I've been following the recent developments regarding the Crunch3r scandel. Although I don't use Crunch3r's Apps, It really is unfortunate he's done some great things for the SETI project.

Lines have been drawn and it seems SETI is coming apart on on the message boards. Add to that Steven Greer's claim last night that Top SETI Officials have said they have multiple confirmed E.T. signals but are covering it up, and there are alot of disgruntled crunchers.

SETI will survive this as most of its crunchers don't frequent the message boards or listen to coast. but its unfortunate to watch something that has spawned goodwill and international cooperation for so long start to come apart at the seems :(

I had my Home machine in L.A. years ago report a couple of *Possible Signals* when my user name was Keith along with about 2,000 other users that found the same thing...

So what????... Maybe they were Real maybe they were not... I hope the are real but that does not mean a Cover Up and if it was they may have a reason as in they Need to Confirm beyond any Point of Doubt...

We are doing it for free, what is the problem???, it's not like it's costing the Government anything anymore and the people that do donate funds can just stop anytime they like... I won't Stop..

I still believe in the project even tho we may never find anything...

Man has always been an Explorer, if he hadn't we would have never got this far, and in the future we need to get to other Planets to help save this planet from over population and killing off all the resources we have...

And if we do find ET, then I hope they help us go to the next level and learn from that...

The Human Mind is Still A Terrible Thing to Waste an it seems there are many that wish we do that...

And as far as Message Boards, they are views by many and simply a reason for fights among the various people participating who think their ideals & views are perfect and should be religiously followed by All Others...

This is one reason why we are Human and not Created/Made exactly the same...

My how Boring this world would be if we all Ate the Same Things, Thought the Same Thoughts and Wore the Same Clothes, I'll leave the rest a Blank I think you get the idea....

And I can leave this with my Typical Snide Remark that I had heard so many many years ago...

Opinions are Like Assholes, Everyone Has One...

There ya go...

Yeah I was *Babbling*...

Still can't figure out why most of the team members are dropping like flies in the stats... My Stats go Way way up and then Way Way down but Tabwebmaster has went way down these past weeks and I came back a bit and PAM seems to steadily gain ground...

Not a *Knock on your part PAM* you just seem like the others in the top 20 or 30 or so just stay there and inch forward...

Strange...

Well on the positive competition side of all this, there is talk of a couple of the top teams throwing in th towel on SETI over the recent scandel. Should they actually "walk the walk" so to say, then it can only be good news for Team Art Bell and help us in the overall rankings.

Heck, we may even pick up some new members from those who defect from departing teams.

It'll be unfortunate for the lost science, after all thats what SETI is suppose to be about, but with the right spin on it, this whole mess can be a positive thing for us that hang in there.

I would say I haven't lost as much ground because of optimization. When Enhanced went live, there was still plenty of Seti 4.18 around, I had a good sized cache and was in no rush to delete that app info xml.

The first optimized Enhanced published on Crunch3r's site was 5.11. But I had read that it was for Seti beta, so it didn't occurr to me to try to use it for Seti Enhanced. So I waited until optimized 5.12 was published. Except for one host, I haven't had to crunch any upoptimized Enhanced. And I may have been lucky to not get any of the weird ones that take forever and error out.

A user was pointed out who is using 5.11 and when you look at his results, you can see he is claiming two or three times what the others are but because of the quorum, he is never getting his claimed credit. The high and the low get tossed, so I don't think this is a very effective way of cheating.

Well I seem to pretty much *Always* get my claimed credits using the Optimized Enhanced Client... :D

I am however going to be offline for nearly 2-weeks starting Sunday nite...

I am on my way to Nashville to get one of my guitars fixed then I'm going to look around and see if I may want to stay there, if not I'm off to another state and I should be back up and Crunching after that...

A new optimized Seti app for Linux may be available soon from KWSN-Chicken of Angnor, aka Simon Zadra. He is also working on a Windows version.

He put up a post today on how to roll your own optimized clients. I tried to access it at work and was blocked from accessing "pornographic" content. Well, you can bet I looked it up when I got home and nary a dirty picture in sight.:D

How to make your own optimized Seti@Home client for Linux

I think that sort of thing is a little advance for me just yet, so I am happy that others who do this are willing to share this knowledge.

Simon called for testers and I emailed him and he allowed me to test on one Linux machine. Sorry, boys, he won't let me share, it was one of his terms not to distribute it, but I think his app shaves a some time off the Crunch3r app.

So keep an eye on the Seti forum for the official release, and I'll be sure to give you a heads up here when it goes public.:)

I've been seeing more of these Very Low Angle Range work units. They take a long time and claim around 58 credits. This is aggravating since work units with average Angle Ranges take much less time and claim 60 credits or more.:( When I see what other people are getting in times for these VLARs, it makes me glad I'm optimized.

Ok, I'm a credit whore.

Now that we've all acknowledged that, allow me to remind you that optimized Seti Enhanced apps are out for

Linux.

There is some kind of legal hold-up for the Windows version.

Hey Everyone! Anybody know where I can get the new optimized apps? My credit has dropped continuously since the enhanced changeover. I noticed many others have as well. Any ideas?

I was just looking at ZipZoomFly CPU prices and marvelling at how low the prices of some really good processors are.

Top Sellers

Core 2 Duo E 6300 $193

Athlon 64 X2 3800 AM2 socket $148

Then I scrolled down the page and saw they still had Socket A Athlon XP's.

Athlon XP 2000 $149
Athlon XP 2800 $189
Athlon XP 2600 $169

Kind of amazing that the prices of those things haven't dropped that much.
