SERVER USERS Please look
I just wanted to let the users know that the server has had a meltdown. I came home today to it being off. I tried to get it back up, but it would not power up. It looks like the power supply has gone bad. I am going to try and find one ASAP. Please bear with me till I get it going again.

I have the server up on a "makeshift" setup. There must have been a power surge because over the past day, I lost 2 other systems. And it looks like I lost more than just the power supplies. No data was lost, but things like video cards, network cards, and a processor don't seem to be working on some systems. Things are running ok right now, but I am going to try and get more parts tomarrow when stores open again. So just be aware things may go out again when I go to rebuild the systems, and since the server software is running on a very old system.

The "Server" that I use for all of you to get and return your WU's is basicly just a computer, but it is the software on it that is doing most of the work. I use the SetiQueue software to server the WU's to everyone. When you are running a server you want to try and remove anything that is not needed on the system to provige as much power to the "serving" I just ordered new cases for the three systems that went out, so that I can stack them nicely in a corner. And I am going to try and pick up parts tomarrow, but I will not have the new cases till next week. as long as I have to shut things down again to rebuild them, I am also going to move them out to my garage. I have the cooling so high on the server that it sounds like a wind tunnel in my house. By moving them to the garged, I can turn down the cooling for the winter, and they will be out of the way. I am going to spend a good part of tomarrow running CAT5 cables through the walls to the garage. It is a big project, but I really need to get some of these computers out of the way.
Things should be back to normal soon.

cass,
I will never request donations, but will always accept them. You can find a donation link on the servers webpage http://setiwu.seti-teamartbell.com:5517
You can see the link about half way down the page in green print.
I will do my best to try and get things back to normal ASAP.
Thanks
Robert

Sorry to hear about that, Robert. I hope it didn't completely spoil the holidays for you.
Robert does indeed have a lot of computers. I like that idea of running CAT5 out to the garage. I wish I had a nice cool out-of-the-way place for my boxes. It would definitely quiet things down in my computer room;)
Hope you get everything up and running again, Robert. I got pretty good at making (putting the terminals on) CAT5 so if you need any extra long cabling, just let me know. I have a source as you know. Any length you can imagine within reason. I think from your basement to the garage would be about 50' or less, right? Let me know if you want me to send you a length of CAT5.

I would just like to let the server users know that I recieved shipping notice of the new cases and parts for the bad server and other systems. Hopefully things will be back to normal by the end of the week. I will let everyone know when things are up to par again.
I would also like to say Thank You to Jonathan for his donation to hepl get things going again. I have listed you as a donator in the server notes and updates page. Thanks again,
Robert
