Beyond Politicians and Dictators -- Enlightened Movers and Shakers
By Trond Øverland

PROUT recognizes the need for politics or political science. In order to develop human resources in this area, the profession of politicians and the mafia trade of political parties should be replaced with progressive-minded grass roots activity.

There should be a system of social boards from village level right up to global level. Through these boards common people will be able to watch the politically elected and mobilize political opinion whenever political decay/corruption sets in.

Candidates for lawmaking assemblies should present their clearly expressed program in black and white. They will be individual candidates and not representatives of any group-motivated party. Once elected candidates are bound by their program and cannot ignore it. A candidate who backs out on his or her election promises will be charged in court, and if found guilty of betraying public trust must immediately resign from office and will not be permitted to participate in the next general round of elections.

People with separatist motivation should be swept out from the field of politics. The present political paradigm is to maintain party existence by exploiting separatist tendencies amongst differing circles while serving the ruling capitalist class. Political parties bask in mudslinging and thrive on coining others as separatist and non-cooperative. Our political world rests in fact on the ability to malign others in order to hoodwink the public about one's own intentions.

The political party system has come a long way since the time of lobbyism and groupism at the courts of powerful monarchs leading up to the parliamentary system. Today's parties function only as the crowbars of the capitalist elite. Political figures are in fact the puppets of money power. Common people, due to the willful machinations of such political forces, do not understand who the real separatists are, and so group interests become more important than the collective welfare of humanity.

Human beings want selfless service. PROUT is dedicated to the service and welfare of one and all. The spirit of service comes from the spirit of serving the supra-conscious entity dwelling in us all. Where the spirit of serving the supra-mental entity is lacking, there cannot be any service spirit in any emanation or any manifestation. Pro-spiritual psychology is a must for a happy and integrated social order. Only spiritually/morally motivated leaders – sadvipras – should engage in politics.

The most valuable thing anyone daring to lead is to cultivate and convey to others is a moral conscience. Only such persons deserve to lead others, in any capacity.

Care to wipe your brow with a toilet roll and lend some clarity to your perspective on this person's article?

China already has 'a system of social boards from village level right up'...

Who will 'judge' and 'charge in court' these 'candidates who back out on his or her election promises'? Who decides what constitutes 'backing out'?

Sounds to me like it's just another hierarchy system, just different names and positions. Too many holes in the line of thinking. Also seems reminiscent of religion, somewhat in a different package albeit.

I agree, Majda, this author did not elaborate on that concern. I do know enough about PROUT to say that how the structure and review plays out can be different within each locality at each level of governance. It's responsive to and pliable with local cultures.

Today, in the US, the General Accounting Office plays some such role upon the Executive branch and reviews the viability, in practice, of requirements prescribed in laws as to whether they work or not. In PROUT, there's scope for another branch of governance, one that monitors the veracity of government and has the power to sue to affect immediate change.

Here is a three step program to address the problem of officials "betraying" public trust:

1) Elimination of the secret ballot. That's right, it's not 1720 anymore! If an official is sent to office, and does not perform as promised, who can hold him/her accountable if no one can prove a breach of contract? Nobody. Politicians know this fact, and exploit it. Laws and organizations are in place these days, and a secret ballot is no longer needed. Furthermore, those who voted for a particular leader should be held personally accountable for the performance of their elected leaders. The people will then force the truth from candidates, and make informed decisions, or avoid the liability altogether.

2) Only those who vote for the government shall be compelled, through taxation, to support it!

3) Every ballot shall offer a check-box for the elimination and incarceration of the ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, needing 80% of the popular vote for immediate passage.

Not true. A more accurate statement is to say no sane individual would ever vote (and become personally liable) for, or pay taxes to a combination of criminal cartels like the one we call a "government" today.
