Got some great shots of Fuego, the active volcano here. It was blowing lava 800 metres into the air on the 23rd.

Unfortunately my laptop died yesterday. Looks like the BIOS is cooked so I´m out of commision until a replacement can be found.

I still have all the pics on CD so I may be able to borrow one temporarily to smallerize the pics.

Until then Hapy New Year to all me maties in case I don´t make it back tomorrow.

May 2005 be the Fantastic Forum´s and all her mate´s best year ever:cool:

Happy New Year, Megman'

Alert in Guatemala as volcanoes become active:

[World News]: Mexico City, Jan 9 : Guatemala has declared a state of alert after three volcanoes in the south American nation has become active again, almost simultaneously, reports Xinhua.

Hugo Hernandez, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Coordination, said the preventive alarm was meant to keep vigilance over the three volcanoes, Pacaya, Santiaguito and Fuego.

Over the past week, the three have been spewing out lava, ashes and rocks in a low magnitude, forcing local inhabitants to be evacuated. This is after a gap of 31 years that the three volcanoes have become active almost simultaneously.

Yup, Fuego has been extremely active. Apparently it is fairly predictable on a 20 year cycle and has been overdue for roughly 5 years for a big one.

On Dec 23 it shot lava 800 metres into the air as can be seen here in this shot taken from our vantageous view point at Earth Lodge which is at 2000 metres.

This shot was taken the next day as Fuego went this trip for over 24 hours.

It has calmed down somewhat but we are awaiting it to blow:eek:
