Solar Power to Rule in 20 Years

Post by SETIsLady » 02-19-2008 07:21 PM

BOSTON — He predicted the fall of the Soviet Union. He predicted the explosive spread of the Internet and wireless access.

Now futurist and inventor Ray Kurzweil is part of distinguished panel of engineers that says solar power will scale up to produce all the energy needs of Earth's people in 20 years.

There is 10,000 times more sunlight than we need to meet 100 percent of our energy needs, he says, and the technology needed for collecting and storing it is about to emerge as the field of solar energy is going to advance exponentially in accordance with Kurzweil's Law of Accelerating Returns. That law yields a doubling of price performance in information technologies every year.

Why twenty years, the technology exist now, what are they waiting for, still kissing big oil's butt, nevermind what it is doing to the enviroment, why is everything always in the future and in most cases doesn't come about, nothing will be done until there is no choice........got to keep making the big bucks and ripping us off as long as they can get away with it, not blaming them totally, the people don't have the guts to boycott these companies, God forbid they can't drive junior to McDonalds to get his junk food fix.

Solar power will not rule in twenty years. We will all be dead in twenty years.

After all, this is the good ole U S of "We're ****ing #1!" A... :(

We've been using solar power battery backup here (our home) since the 90s and while its not our sole use it does provide a lot of the electric needs. However with the improved panels and lower costs, it could be expanded enough to do just that.

Solar and wind are becoming more prominent in many areas for supplying electric needs. The problem with both is the storage to hold that energy for use.

JQ.... Are you sure, that all will perish... no survivors, no outpost on off in under the planet, a sapient-less Gaia?... Are you quite quite sure?
