Hush! Frito-Lay to pull most noisy SunChips bags

PLANO, Texas — Frito-Lay hopes to quiet complaints about its noisy SunChips bags by switching out the biodegradable bags for the old packaging on most flavors.

The snack maker says it will switch back to original packaging made of a type of plastic for five of the six varieties of the chips. It will keep the biodegradable and recyclable bags for its sixth variety, its original plain flavor. That's its second best-selling, after Harvest Cheddar.

Spokeswoman Aurora Gonzalez says the company received complaints about the noise from the bags since they were launched in April 2009.

The bags are louder than traditional bags because the material used for them is made from plants and has a different molecular structure.

Frito-Lay is a unit of PepsiCo Inc., based in Purchase, N.Y.

Those bags were so loud they'd wake the dead. But we know what to do with dissenters....

First off Sun Chips are fantastic tasting.

You are so correct PW, if we as people can't even handle a noiser bag of all thing for a better environmental purpose, how do we expect to make any effort for anything else. Major sigh on this.

This video has now been termed "Splattergate" at various blogs, and has served as an epiphany for a lot of people. To me, it's definitively invalidated the environmentalist movement as it currently exists in the US and Europe. Perhaps talking about why would be pointless -- as a video, it speaks for itself.

Definitely, one could argue that it's so depraved, so confused, so insane, it shouldn't be re-posted or viewed. On the other hand, it's highly effective as a marker of the twisted psychology found in totalitarian societies.

Citizens of Los Angeles have little contact with the mountains of gargage they create on a daily basis. They simply ship it away for others to deal with. The purpose of a well run landfill (a garbage "dump") is to decompose the materials and return them to the earth. Plastic, in addition taking 20-200 years to break down (depending on it's consistency), is anaerobic, it slows and can prevent the necessary bacterial function to break down surrounding materials.

In addition, plasic is a material which is petroleum based. And we get alot of the light sweet crude, which breaks down more easily in the distillation process, from those scary, hateful A-rabs. Why would we want to give them more political and economic power when we can make bags from corn and sugar cane that we grow right here?

The Garden Salsa and the Peppercorn Ranch are yummy, IMO.
