One of the most anticipated events ever in sports entertainment history, WRESTLEMANIA III remains a classic that has stood the test of time.
The motivating force behind some 93,000 fans packing the Pontiac Silverdome 30 years ago was the main event between WWF champion, Hulk Hogan, and former best friend, Andre the Giant, a man who had not been defeated in 15 years.
By far, it was the biggest match in pro wrestling history to that point in time, and Hogan bodyslamming Andre is considered a landscape changing moment. There was, however, more to WrestleMania III than just the Hogan vs. Andre contest.
The phenomenal Intercontinental title match between Ricky Steamboat & Randy Savage not only stole the show, it is considered by many to be the greatest match in WrestleMania history and quite possibly, the greatest pro wrestling match ever.
The culmination of a bitter feud, the "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Adrian Adonis bout was billed as The Hod Rod's retirement match, with the loser getting his hair cut. The conclusion marked the beginning of Brutus Beefcake's "Barber" gimmick.
