Seems bleak. I believe there are some small encouragements... personal incomes rose slightly, as did manufacturing.

I want to believe there is still hope for a sustained, although undramatic recovery underway.

If any of you believe that the current economy is the way in which it is because Adam Smith's "invisible hand" is giving us the finger, then you don't know a damn thing about contemporary economics. The current economy is the way that it is PRECISELY in order to create the misery that people are suffering. This is all just part of the master plan for the dissolution of the American middle class.

And the only thing that can possibly alter the situation is what happened in Paris in the summer of 1789 or what happened in Saint Petersberg in February of 1917 or (and oh-so-many people have forgotten this!) what happened throughout the length and breadth of America in 1932.

And don't tell me that this mass action can't work! The oil companies have ALWAYS used the Memorial Day weekend as an opportunity to raise gas prices to gouge the summer consumer. Now, however, in their terror of the wrath of the people over the BP oil spill, the oil companies have actually LOWERED gas prices to keep the peasants with their torches and pitchforks away! For the moment, until they can regain total control, at which point the sky's the limit at the pump...

The American people demonstrated forty-two years ago that it basically wanted a fascist society, and it never has changed its mind since, no, not even when it elected Mr. Hope-n-Change in 2008. But the wages of sin STILL are death! The American people have sinned --- repeatedly, deeply, unrepentantly --- and now they will die. Literally, as on the Gulf Coast...
