US bricks-and-mortar retailers are bleeding badly. E-commerce is gobbling up a growing share of sales, store productivity has dwindled, consumer shopping habits are shifting toward fast, cheap fashion—or away from stuff entirely—and it all seems to be coming to a head this year. FULL STORY

Competition from on line places has increased with 'free home delivery' is causing problems for smaller stores throughout many areas. Even the ability to shop on line at local larger outlet places either to be picked up later or yes even delivered is changing a lot of shopping.

Competition among grocery stores has also increased as some have actually put signs on their products "cheaper than .. competitors store name".

YET we are seeing more manufacturing start ups, so who knows what will happen.
