I can't help but wonder what people in the Middle East would say to me if I waltzed into their country and demanded they change to my western values.
Muslims Complain That National Anthem Is ‘Oppressive’ And ‘Forced Assimilation’
Muslims have another complaint against the countries that have been welcoming their religion into their borders with open arms. The National Anthems are just too darn oppressive.
Uthman Badar, the spokesman for the Islamist activist group Hizb ut-Tahriri in Australia, explained that the Australian government “Claims to afford freedom,” but instead, forces their values and beliefs onto the Muslim-Australians.
His remarks were heard at the “Innocent Until Proven Muslim” conference in Sydney. An estimated 800 people attended the conference to hear Badar speak. He was critical of what he called a ‘forced assimilation.’ Badar emphasized his point by saying,
That’s an excellent question. Why should a people be forced to participate in proclaiming the values of others when they don’t share the same beliefs? It’s almost like he is claiming Australia is doing to its people, what countries that follow Sharia Law do to theirs.“If you don’t share those values, why should they be forced to sing it?”
In Sharia Law run countries, homosexuals are executed, and women that commit adultery can find themselves the victims of honor killings or disfiguring attacks. Women are not allowed to walk in public unescorted, and must wear outfits that reveal very little. Those that leave the faith of Islam are killed, and those who speak against or even draw the Prophet Muhammad can be murdered. These must be the more tolerant and non-oppressive values that Badar favors.
