And I'm unhappy about it all but a frowning Smilie says thanks to Doka and Riddick. I've bookmarked the site.

The % of containment is ALWAYS up to Mum Nature with the news making forest fires. Fire retardants and water air drops by helo or large aircraft, as we all know, are both great PR.

As a long time subscriber to Robert Spencer's web site, that way too few subscribe to (with the D & G I can't blame them), once in a while there is more to "how they start" than meets the eyes.

Wildfire Is Closer To Containment

Palm Springs, Calif.—Firefighters in California grew closer to containing the devastating Blue Cut wildfire, which has wiped out 105 homes and forced up to 82,650 residents to evacuate, authorities say.

The fire, which has burned more than 57 square miles in the San Bernardino Mountains, was 68% contained as of Saturday morning, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.

“Things are extremely positive. We’re checking for additional hot spots that could potentially jump the line,” said Brad Pitassi, a spokesman for the multi-agency fire command.

Officials said Friday night that many residents who were forced to evacuate have since returned to their homes. About 7,000 people, however, still remain evacuated.

No deaths have been reported in the fire east of Los Angeles. Earlier in the day, forest officials, asked the public for help in identifying the source of the wildfire.

The fire continued burning in remote, sparsely populated mountain and canyon areas full of extremely dry brush. In the communities of Wrightwood, Lytle Creek and West Cajon Valley, 34,500 structures were threatened initially. By Friday night, however, authorities reduced that number to 3,198.

“This has been a tough couple of weeks for the people of San Bernardino County,” Fire Chief Mark Hartwig said Friday morning. More than 1,500 firefighters are battling the Blue Cut blaze.

Friday’s morning news conference was held as the county opened a “one-stop-shop” assistance center at the fairgrounds in Victorville.

The center provides fire victims all the resources and agencies they may need, including insurance, property records, medical and behavioral health practitioners, housing, the Red Cross and utility companies DMV and other state, local and federal agencies.

“The assistance center is to make it as easy as possible to get the help (people) need,” said James Ramos, chairman of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

Among the people who evacuated the fire area were Anita and Bill Foster, a Wrightwood couple whose bags rested near their cots in the mostly-empty Sultana High School gym Thursday night.

“When we left home, we didn’t have more than the shirts on our backs,” Bill Foster said. “It was a little scary; we’ve never had to evacuate before.

“We deal with fires every year. It’s part of living up there,” Foster said. “I’ve never seen a fire like this one.”

The U.S. Forest Service has reported that this year's fire season has burned more than 300 square miles of National Forest lands in California.

The Blue Cut Fire was among number of major wildfires burning across drought-stricken California on Friday.

In the southern Sierra Nevada, another blaze feeding on dense timber in Sequoia National Forest forced the evacuation of several tiny hamlets.

Another blaze burned in Santa Barbara County and forced the evacuation of a pair of campgrounds during the height of the summer season.

In mountains north of San Francisco, a 6-square-mile blaze was 80% contained after destroying 300 structures, including 189 homes and eight businesses, in the working-class community of Lower Lake. All evacuation orders have been canceled.

One man's arrest has been made and this home country raised lone wolf could be responsible for setting 17 fires! During his hearing last week his head was down cast the whole time in court.

No doubt after the trees and brush's regrowth and the many destroyed homes rebuilt. Those land/lot prices will not have depreciated one penny!

Some 40 large active fires are being tracked by the U.S. Forest Service across at 7 southern states. More than 80,000 acres have burned in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia.

While a stubborn drought and warm winds are being blamed for the underlying conditions, Tennessee said on Tuesday that of about 1,238 wildfires that have burned across the state this year, almost 50 percent involve suspected cases of arson. FULL STORY

Thanks for the update here Riddick and again thanks to Doka for the link above to find them on a map.

That's been rough for breathing in the larger cities like Atalanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina! And in the rural areas, smaller cities and towns spread out over hundreds of miles in 7 states all in line with the huge smoke trails! Last week the radio news said there had been 1,400 individual fires in total since September! If it's so dry down South that means there has been a major lack of thunderstorm generated lightning!

This is an admission about Reno, Nevada's forest fires set in 2012. Also going back to 2005 in eastern Australia the 6th Century throw backs claimed to have set the wind driven brush and forest fires that eventually killed 200 Australians. Robert had that sad news linked too but I can't say I read any newspapers sighting that their admition of arson was made public. The mostly on the US dole as bic flicking radicals are evil encarnate!

The Tennessee Division of Forestry reports 47 wildland and mountainous forest fires are burning or have burned 15,000 acres.

Come on folks there's a southeastern US drought with no rain and no lightning for months on until the early morning hours of today. The heaviest rain is missing the mountains as it seems on radar. MSM is not covering this in what little news I've watched this AM.

You know where I could go with this but I'll be just like the pundits at MSM on the radio and TV and not go there! And that could be a good thing.

The Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Gatlinburg, Tennessee Inferno

1 Question: Do you think we will ever know the names and backgrounds of the two juveniles? They were arrested in Sevier County Tennessee as the 2 fire setters that killed 14 American citizens and destroyed 2,500 structures in and around Gatlinburg, TN. News several days ago noted they might be tried as adults.

I told my wife my theory on their background and she said, "I never thought of that."

Dolly Parton's recent telethon just raised 9 million dollars for the resident's losses!

More news, in bits and pieces, was released on 2 teen fire setters who were seen tossing lit matches along the Chimney Tops' trail!
