An odd form of hubris has overtaken Democrats in both their political and media branches. They are so certain that President Trump is ignorant and they are smart that they march right into traps of their own devising. Consider this face-plant by Andrea Mitchell, dead certain that President Trump must be incorrect in has claim about Abraham Lincoln: that event the Gettysburg Address was criticized by Lincoln's contemporaries.

The president has been saying that Abraham Lincoln was criticized for the Gettysburg Address at his rallies in defending his own ability to – for history to prove that he will surmount the criticism. BESCHLOSS: "Yes, he was criticized for to Gettysburg Address by newspapers that hated Lincoln and wanted to support his opponent the next year when he ran for reelection. Not too unusual, but there were huge numbers of newspapers who understood Lincoln and even at that moment knew that Gettysburg Address would be a great document in American history."
MITCHELL: "So it wasn't all fake news?"
BESCHLOSS: "It was not all fake news."

In truth, it wasn't just random "newspapers" or amorphous "opponents" -- it was the Democrat Party who vilified Lincoln throughout his career and assassinated him in his second term. The same Democrat Party that voted for pro-slavery Stephen Douglas over Lincoln (in the North) in 1860 and the same Democrat Party that nominated in 1864 the quisling general of the northern army most responsible for the magnitude of the war's carnage--George McClellan, [because he refused to fight the Confederate (southern Democrat) rebellion.] He thereby emboldened the southern Democrats (Confederates) and many of his defeats on the battlefield were a direct result of his passivity and cowardice. (He didn't win any major battles, despite significant advantages of men, arms and materiel.)

Next, it was the Democrat Party's newspapers in New York City that savaged Lincoln in their pages, and whipped their Democrat base into a full-scale riot (the Draft Riots) that saw Republican newspapers and politicians attacked and their buildings burned, and the immolation of a black orphanage with the children inside.

In fact, after the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg, where Lee's northern invasion was repulsed, when Meade urgently needed to pursue Lee back into the south to finish the war, Meade was forced to send tens of thousands of his best and freshest troops on a forced march to New York City to put down the Democrats' riot because the city's police force was unable or unwilling to do so. The troops were needed on the field to end the war at its most pivotal juncture, and instead, they were hotfooting it to NYC to put down a riot of Democrats. So, instead, the nation's worst war dragged on for nearly two more, long years.

So, it wasn't just "newspapers" and it wasn't just "opponents".

The Democrats can pull down every statue, that represents their true Southern Democrat affiliation., but somewhere someone will read the old , official news of the times and know the truth.

Their current fake love affair with "Lincoln" is totally a "Sham of Convenience". Also the Creation of the "KLAN" was out of the Southern Democrats, it did spread to the Northern States also. Which only proves that prejudice, can be easily taught to humans (that nasty desire to be superior). And the Southern Dems are still teaching the same old prejudices, just with a new twist(of convenience, Theirs). Blacklivesmatter# , Straight , white folks...Bad, Metoo#, Republican's kill em if you can. Everyone is "Racist" but them Come on Human's Get A Grip!
