Someone finally brings clarity to the Obamagate narrative

One of the problems with Obamagate is that it's incredibly complicated. It began under the Obama administration and involved the alphabet agencies (the CIA, the FBI, and the DOJ), as well as President Obama, the national security adviser, the director of National Intelligence, the FISA court, and overseas intelligence agencies.

The wrongdoing included false affidavits; spying on innocent people, including the president-elect; unmasking; and set-ups, such as perjury traps and spies inveigling people into ambiguous statements that could be used against them. It then escalated to an attempt to overthrow the Trump presidency through a two-year-long investigation that destroyed several people's lives, even though the special counsel's office knew from Day One that neither Trump nor his team had done anything wrong.

What I stated above is just the super-simple, short version. Meanwhile, on the other side, for three years, all that the left had to do was holler "Russia! Russia! Russia! Collusion! Ukraine! Putin!," and everyone fell in line.

Amid the flurry of details about spying on Michael Flynn, lying to secret courts about Carter Page, leaking classified documents, and more, it’s easy to get lost in the muck. It’s important to stand back, identify the worst abuses, and explain why they matter for American democracy. These abuses didn’t simply follow each other; their targets, goals, and principal players overlapped. Taken together, they represent some of the gravest violations of constitutional norms and legal protections in American history. Whether you are Democrat or Republican, whether you like Donald Trump or loathe him, these violations matter.

Some call this debacle “Obamagate” since the key officials were his appointees and the White House was directly involved. But they got plenty of help. Some came from the permanent bureaucracy, especially in law enforcement and intelligence. Still more came from the mainstream media, which served as conduits for classified leaks aimed at Trump, his campaign, and then his presidency. For over three years, the media’s top story was “Trump colluded with Russia.” When that imploded after the Mueller Report, they moved on to impeachment.

The entrenched elites behind these scandals are the Swamp at its most sulfurous. They spied illegally on Americans and used powerful tools of government to damage the party-out-of-power, its outsider candidate, and then his new presidency. It’s worse than a single surveillance scandal. It’s three huge ones, intertwined. All were abuses of power. Some were crimes.

Barack Obama to Address Nation on George Floyd Riots (5 p.m. EDT)

Former President Barack Obama will make remarks to the nation about the George Floyd riots at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Obama’s address is set for 5 p.m. EDT as part of a town hall with his former Attorney General Eric Holder. The town hall will be streamed from the Obama website but is expected to be carried by cable news networks. The event is titled, “Reimagining policing in the wake of continued police violence with President Obama.”

Other participants are listed as: Brittany Packnett Cunningham, activist, educator writer; Phillipe Cunningham, Minneapolis City Council Ward 4; Playon Patrick, My Brother’s Keeper Youth Leader, City of Columbus; and Rashad Robinson, president of Color of Change.

Bloomberg’s Jennifer Jacobs reported what Obama aides are saying about the event, “Obama speaks at 5p ET today on police violence via virtual town hall. Discussion, livestreamed on http://Obama.org, will be on “tragic events of recent weeks, the recurrent problem of racial bias in our criminal justice system, and specific action steps needed,” per aides.”

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany conducted a press briefing Wednesday in which she talked, among other things, about Rod Rosenstein’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. She summed up the outrage of Obamagate succinctly:

It’s a pretty grave thing to spy on an American citizen, to violate his Fourth Amendment rights, to not have a basis to do so, and to rely on a Russian dossier full of lies as the justification. So, it’s really astonishing to hear from [Rosenstein] that he’s not sure he read every page of that warrant. But, I suppose it’s encouraging to hear – with his 20/20 hindsight – that he wouldn’t have signed on it, though I’m sure that’s of no comfort to Carter Page.

The President is dismayed. This happened to the President’s campaign. A Republican campaign was spied on by a Democratic presidency – a Democratic administration – based on a dossier paid for by his opponent, Hillary Clinton, and the DNC. This is absolutely extraordinary. It is the biggest political scandal that we’ve seen and the lack of journalistic curiosity on this front is appalling.

It is indeed appalling, but it is not surprising. Journalists’ interest in the fake news dossier was the same as that of the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC. It wasn’t a matter of believing it, it was a matter of finding it useful. They found it useful, and I doubt that there is a single journalist who now regrets misleading the American people for three years.

Obama Expresses Strange New Respect for George W. Bush


As we’re seeing all over the country, the left is rewriting history on the fly to rationalize the behavior of the angry mobs rioting and looting and destroying stuff. Now the big craze is tearing down statues in public places. Not just Confederate statues, either. Pretty much any metal object that looks like a life-sized human being is fair game. If a figure from American history was important enough to be immortalized in bronze, the left will find some reason to justify vandalizing it or even tearing it down.

But the people toppling these statues are amateurs. It doesn’t take any skill to destroy a historical artifact from centuries or even decades ago. The real challenge is rewriting history you lived through yourself!

And so it is with Barack Obama’s #strangenewrespect for George W. Bush. Here he is expressing it during a “virtual grassroots fundraiser” for his former vice president, who also happens to be the presidential candidate he can no longer avoid endorsing:

“My predecessor, who I disagreed with on a whole host of issues, uh… still had a basic regard for… the rule of law and the importance of… our institutions of democracy, uh… on the world stage. There was still a sense that America needed to lead, and that that leadership, uh… meant that as imperfect as we might be, uh, there were certain ideals and values that we were gonna aspire to and advance, and that we cared about human rights, and we cared about, uh… battling against, uh… the oppression of peoples in distant lands.

And that we tried to uphold, uh, both in our own country but around the world certain core principles around, uh… rule of law and, uh… the universal dignity of people, uh… and the need for us to, uh, provide assistance to, uh, those who are suffering either from natural catastrophes or because of underdevelopment. Uh, a sense that our alliances were important, uh, and that we should stand up for, uh, democracy and human rights.

And, and so as, as challenging as those times were, and as much of a slog as it was to, uh… yank the economy out of the economic crisis that was, that it was in, and in some ways things were tougher, uh… in terms of financial system than they are today. But there was still a sense of, of… of a shared American idea that we could build on. Uh, and… what we have seen over the last couple of years is, uh, a White House enabled… by, uh… Republicans in Congress and a media structure that supports them. Uh… that has… not just differed in terms of policy, but has gone at the very foundations of who… we are and who we should be. Uh… that suggests facts don’t matter. Science doesn’t matter.”

Obama and Biden were up to their necks in the Flynn persecution

On Wednesday, news broke that was so big that (at least as of this writing) both the New York Times and the Washington Post ignored it: Barr’s DOJ finally forced the FBI to release Comey’s debriefing of the January 5, 2017 meeting that led to the General Flynn persecution.

The notes, which Peter Strzok wrote based on a conversation with Comey, show Obama directing the FBI to investigate General Flynn using “the right people,” while Biden came up with the idea that Flynn should be prosecuted under the Logan Act, an old, unconstitutional law that is inapplicable to a national security advisor. As well as showing a White House conspiracy against the incoming administration, the notes also reveal that Susan Rice’s bizarre inauguration email to herself was false and that Biden lied to Americans about his involvement.

Although heavily redacted, the portion of the notes that the DOJ released to the public is unambiguous. In the Scribd document embedded below, the title that The Federalist gave to the one page document tells the whole story: “Peter Strzok’s Notes Confirm Obama Personally Ordered Hit on Michael Flynn.”

Strzok’s cramped, chaotic handwriting sets out the following:

Barack Obama Threatened to Defund Schools, and Democrats Were All For It

On Wednesday, President Trump issued a warning to states that are considering not reopening schools. “In Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and many other countries, SCHOOLS ARE OPEN WITH NO PROBLEMS,” Trump tweeted. “The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!”

The outrage mob predictably took the bait. The media ran articles insisting Trump has no authority to cut funding. Democrats ran to microphones claiming Trump doesn’t have the authority to do that. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for example, said “school reopenings are a state decision. Period. That is the law, and that is the way we’re going to proceed. It’s not up to the president of the United States.”

But Democrats like Cuomo didn’t have any objection the last time a president threatened to withhold federal funding from schools four years ago.

In May of 2016, the Obama administration declared that the Departments of Justice and Education would both “treat a student’s gender identity as the student’s sex for purposes of enforcing Title IX,” and issued a directive to all public school districts in the country to allow students to use the bathrooms matching their “gender identity.”

Obama Uses John Lewis Funeral to Call for ‘Eliminating the Filibuster’

Former President Barack Obama used his eulogy at the funeral of Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) to call for an end to the Senate filibuster to pass Democrats’ new legislation on voting reform.

Obama said that Republicans had imitated Jim Crow-era restrictions on voting rights, which Lewis marched against, by passing state voter ID laws and other measures that conservatives argue prevent voter fraud.

He urged Congress to pass a new version of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“You want to honor John? Let’s honor him by revitalizing the law that he was willing to die for,” Obama said, to applause.

Democrats have pushed for a new version of the law, after the Supreme Court invalidated part of it in 2013, saying that it was outdated.

Without mentioning Donald Trump by name, Obama likened the president to segregationist Democrat Gov. George Wallace of Alabama, and compared federal law enforcement officers to the police who beat civil rights marchers across the South.

He accused the government of “sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators.”
