Acer Computers

Post by SetiCruncher » 09-01-2006 11:08 AM

Anyone have any opinions or experience with Acer computers?

They strike me as bottom of the barrel low end systems, but given I have never owned one I could be wrong.

I have found a screaming deal on an Acer notebook and am hesitant to take the leap. But if they are quality systems, I just may go for it.

Any input on this manufacturer?

Thanks.

Well its done!

This is the notebook system I was looking at:

Acer Notebook

I would have had to order it in from another city but the warrenty wasn't quite what I wanted, so...

Today I broke down and bought one locally. I ended up buying an HP with almost identical specs except for a slightly smaller HD and an upgrade to a 17 inch screen. The big bonus with this one is a three year warrenty and local Tech's can do any required work without having to send the notebook away.

I've heard bad things about HP over the years, but I used them years ago in University and never had an issue with them, so I thought I'd chance it, if anything goes wrong I'll just be sure to get the most out of that warrenty :)

Sure it will be great, the only experience I have had with Acer is owning Acer Monitors and never had any problems with those. Don't own one now but have given a couple away and they are still alive and kicking.

i did get my son the acer 5102 from circuit city, it was on sale for 769.00 with a printer/scanner and wireless modem thrown in. saw the same laptop at newegg for 879.00 without the printer so we jumped on this and had the two year extended warranty for 159.00.

havent heard anything bad about hp's and with the 17'' lcd it will be sooo much easier to work on.
