Hi Jeri: Yeah. Been here off and on. Try to spread my self around between here and Shortwave DX sites/Soho/etc.. It seems I posted something in reply to you on another site, but can't remember. Sorry. I am tired! It's been a long week and it's only Monday!

Wow! I just posted the last post to Jeri once and here I see it twice. Things are really acting up! Speeking of acting up, I HEARD AN AM RADIO STATION FROM FLORIDA ON 25873 KHz (it was WFLA AM970). I am trying to find out if they were testing or not... or if it has to do with the SUN!

Some commercial radio stations still use HF as a link to the station when doing remote broadcasts. (Most, these days, use microwave)
With all of the solar activity, and givin that the frequency is right above the 12 meter band, it is concievable that you were hearing "skip" from a remote. 25 megs is an HF frequency and prone to skip when the conditions are right. A week ago sunday I worked a station in Alaska in 28 megs.(10 meters) He was only pushing 5 watts. Thats the beauty of 10 and 12 meters. When they are open, it doesnt take much to talk to the world.

ElKamio: Yeah thanks. I have thought of that too, but sort of dismissed it because of the transmission being in the 11 meter IBCB. But it is possible.
I was monitoring the Voices group on 3830 last night and station W9ARV Bob from Tampa Florida coming into So.Cal at 5X5 strong s9.
This was at 0725UTC! Conditions are very interesting!
FYI: I almost became an amateur in the 70's but never finished - then moved out of state. I am once again studying for my ticket and re-learning CW-HiHi.
My station: Re-worked Realistic Dx300 and an Icom IC-R75. Have twin inverted "V"'s for 75/40meters and a 20 meter vertical monopole.
Again - thanks for the input - IT IS ALWAYS WELCOME!

JUST AN UPDATE: One verification found on the WFLA reception comes from the U.K.! Station WFLA was logged on shortwave.org.uk on 3/9 at 25870FM by "GP" at 1430hrs UTC.
I emailed the general manager of WFLA last night so see if they respond. HiHi & 73's

Barry,
Just a thought here. I wonder if this station broadcasts a shortwave signal? Ill have to check out the Worldband listing.
The legal CB frequencies are from 26.965 (Channel 1) to 27.405 (Channel 40) Anything outside of that is illegal for CBers to use. (That doesnt mean they dont..."freebanders")
There are still a number of frequencies listed for commercial use in the 25Mhz region. Im betting its one or the other.
If you find out, let me know via this thread. I love a mystery. Image Thanks. (Get your ticket old man. You'll be glad you did.)

Thanks Elk: Yeah I understand about the "Freebanders". Own a Cobra 2000GTL myself and stay in band with legal power. Mainly, if I use it, which is once and a while, I am on 27375 LSB. I have talked to Ireland & Australia on 12watts, which is exciting being QRP against the power users. But yes, there is nothing like a ticket and working lower HF.
I WILL keep working on the WFLA thing. Did more research on it yesterday including going to the FCC site and looking unfer HF Broadcasts. Hit a wall there "FILE NOT FOUND!" The English DX site was the first break in identifying the source as being correct. I emailed the station with a reseption report for the engineer, but so far nothing. I have noted in my log to keep you updated because you "LOVE A MYSTERY". So do I - hihi -
Again, thanks for your interests in this. Take care & 73's OM! -Barry
