New Health Care Ad: If Dick Cheney Didn’t Have Government Care, ‘He’d Probably Be Dead Now’

By Matt Corley
December 10, 2007

In Iowa today, 10 newspapers are running a full page ad advocating for a single-payer health-care bill, highlighting the fact Vice President Dick Cheney has benefited from his government-provided coverage. “If he were anyone else, he’d probably be dead by now,” the ad claims. Cheney, as the ad notes, has a long history of health problems:
The patient’s history and prognosis were grim: four heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery, angioplasty, an implanted defibrillator and now an emergency procedure to treat an irregular heartbeat
The ad, which is sponsored by the California Nurses Association and the National Nurses Organizing Committee, argues that without his government-provided health care, Cheney’s recent heart problems would have been “a death sentence“:
For millions of Americans, this might be a death sentence. For the vice president, it was just another medical treatment. And it cost him very little.

Unlike the average American, the president, vice president and members of Congress all enjoy government-financed health care with few restrictions or prohibitive fees.
In response to the ad, Cheney spokesperson Megan Mitchell told the Wall Street Journal that “something this outrageous does not warrant a response.”

The factual and provocative ad isn’t outrageous. What is outrageous is the fact that there are roughly 47 million people in America without health insurance, including 3.2 million children, but President Bush vetoed legislation in October that would have extended coverage to 4 million more children.

While it is certainly good that Vice President Cheney was able get the medical attention he needed, the groups’ ad is right. “The rest of us deserve no less” than Cheney.

This is all about oppression and control. Greed and profits.

Dick Cheney and the rest got state of the art health care. But the rest of us? F*ck you. If you aint makin them a whole boat load of money you deserve to die.

That's become the predominate mission statement concerning health care within corporate America today?

Don't believe me? Climb out from beneath that rock and look for yourself.

Yassir, SpaceProphet, and that demonstrates their mindset when they dein to arrange a 50%+ genocide to get the rest of humanity out of their way. There's more than enough for everyone's need, yet not nearly enough for the elite few's greed.

You're so close my brother.

They want to go back to serfdom. Like what Walmart is. All companies making their help live in communal living arrangements and barely surviving. It's either that or starving.

So you think the filthy rich guy in the white house who has been receiving for years is going to make waves now? Not hardly.

No. Global economy. All manufacturing leaving the US. Low-paying service industry jobs are the only way to make a living. The only way to get corporate jobs is if you are backed financially by huge money to go to college. Look it up yourself. The cost of a college education has been privatized to the degree that the whole system has become bank controlled. It's been exploited almost as much as the health care industry annually.

No love to the middle class. You will be continually anally raped. Why do you lay down still with your legs reaching for the stars? Let's start a new beginning. It's not too late. Do you really think they care about you one iota? Dream on. You're a freakin number. One reason why you are spiritually tied to those poor souls who are stuck over in Iraq.

The dollar is worthless. The rich are shoring up their power. They don't give a damn about the working folk. If they did why are so many blue collar jobs leaving?

Make a stand now. Longer...it may be too late.

... And why are so many "rich" folk in the U S taking their monies out of America? For the same reasons you describe and other mean-spiritied predatious reasons.

No.

They are taking their monies out of the system because the system is collapsing.

A collapse that they helped create...through greed. Over the last 10 years.

It's a common human behavior. Since the dawn of man. Purely human reaction to protect yourself when you are being threatened, even if you helped create it. They are doing that. But the larger picture is suffering because of this.

Rome suffered the same way.

We...you...brought it on yourselves. Enjoy.

Welcome your oppression and misery. Or fight against it. You're decision.

I guess it ultimately goes back to democracy doesn't it?

Democracy, yes. Political democracy winds up being up for sale, whereas Economic democracy is the fodder from which political democracy is born, and party interests are given no scope to exploit.
