Al Gore ~ Gandalf the White of the Democratic Party?

Gore suggested as 'neutral force' to settle nomination
By Tom Baxter
Southern Political Report

February 16, 2008 — Al Gore has become the Gandalf the White of the Democratic Party.

He’s already fallen off the cliff, so to speak. But when the complicated Democratic nomination storyline grinds to a halt, he magically reappears to nudge the plot forward.

With the Obama-Clinton struggle heading to a standoff, Gore made another appearance this weekend in the lead story of Saturday’s New York Times, by virtue of having done, essentially, nothing.

According to the story by Don Van Natta Jr. and Jo Becker, Gore and “a number of other senior Democrats” have decided to remain neutral in the nomination fight, with an eye on the possibility they may be needed to negotiate a deal that would avoid a divided convention.

There are several references to “party leaders” and “party elders,” who include but don’t seem to be limited to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and three Democrats who’ve already dropped out of the presidential race: John Edwards, Joe Biden and Chris Dodd.

A number of these party elders have approached Gore as the race has tightened to a stalemate, according to the story, but all Gore is said to have done is counsel Democratic leaders to stay on the sidelines for now.

Because of former President Clinton’s partisanship in the race, Gore could play the role of “a more neutral force and an honest broker,” someone close to Gore told the Times.

Exactly how much of a “neutral force” Gore could be was called into question by an Eleanor Clift column published Friday on Newsweek’s website suggesting the possibility of a “second-ballot scenario” that might nominate Gore. While that isn’t being considered by Democratic party leaders, Clift wrote, it’s being talked about by “a number of individual high-profile Democrats.”

So, thanks to the wizard, the Democratic plot twists through another weekend.

Amerika is in the most desperate situation since the Civil War and the Great Depression. Everybody has always known that Hillary Clinton is a disaster, and very shortly, they will know that Barack Obama is too. Only Gore can save this country: there is no other hope. Gore does not want to be President --- he has been insulted by this country so deeply in 2000 that he is entirely justified in letting it collapse --- but he must be forced by the Demokrat Convention to accept the Presidency.

This is our only hope, but it ain't gonna happen! Either Clinton or Obama will become the Demokrat candidate, and the victor's dirty tricks will split the Demokrat Party in half. Cap'n Jack will win in November, even without the fascists to support him, and when he dies in office of sickness and old age after a year, then his vice-president Huckleberry Hound will succeed him, and the Great Pastor will get everybody in Amerika ready for the Rapture about the time that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. Which he should, because Amerika will go down the tubes in his Administration. Amerika will die!

Only Gore can save us from our sins. But why should he? Why?

Seriously. Gore has already campaigned - and won. If he is nominated by acclamation at the convention in late August, he will only have to put up with 'campaigning' for about 60 days and a short week. Plenty of time to excoriate Saurian Bush and to set the record straight.

If the current campaign continues to run on as it has, becoming more bitter and divisive - there may remain only one clear path.

If Gore became the Democrat nominee, Amerika would vote him into office out of unbearable guilt alone!

And, a belated understanding of our own self-interest.

There is an unmistakable similarity out there, of the creation of the unstoppable 'Obamatron', and the mysterious rise of the incompetent gw bush in 2000. Many feel Gore would endorse him, but I believe Gore knows very well there is something strange afoot.

I believe Gore truly loves this country, and will do whatever he can to get it back on track.

Can we dare hope that Gore will ultimately be the nominee come November, I would like nothing better, I agree that he truly loves this country and could turn things around.

The real comparison for Obama in 2008 is Clinton in 1992. Both men are mad for ultimate power and they promised everybody everything that they wanted in order to win. But even before he was inaugurated in January of 1993, Clinton started to betray his followers, and when Hillary destroyed our best chance for national health insurance in October of 1994, he turned into a Republican fellow traveler for the remaining six years of his Presidency. And so it will be with Obama, if Obama does win in November...

*Gasp*

Is there a chance that he'd endorse her?
I'm not feelin' it. If anything, it seems he continues to hold strong feelings of deep resentment toward her. And rightfully so, as she made sport of usurping his thunder.

Gore would not be the least interested in playing second fiddle to Obama. Gore would get in this only to protect the country.

I fear Joe is quite correct. Barack Obama is being used and willingly...to what ends we can only guess. He has come from nowhere and has the backing of powerful behind the scenes interests.
