I've never seen a Moon Flower, so this was lovely to me. I hope some of the rest of you can appreciate it, as well.

Isn't it amazing the mechination Mother Earth has designed for all the living things here on this planet. That a flower blooms for one night so that moths may pollinate them, and that it is white in color to attract those moths. Sometimes it just takes my breath away...the perfect symetry of it all.
Dance to heal the earth. Not just when you're dancing, but always. Live the dance, whenever you move, in all you do, dance to heal the earth.
I'm sure it would do well. It's Echinopsis multiplex var. los angeles is what I'm told, a very old hybrid. I have never seen it anywhere for sale, mine came from a friend and is what started me growing cactus many years ago. If you would like some pups I would be happy to send them to you. Just email me.

We have a large cacti garden, but we do not have this. Will you send me a couple of pups too? I'll give you my physical address if you e-mail me.whskyfan wrote: I'm sure it would do well. Jim, your pups have arrived !!! They had a long trip here. They got delivered to the wrong business and were held hostage until today !!! When I sent the man in brown (UPS) to find them ...LOL They are resting peacefully on my patio right now and have been fed. They are beautiful and thank you so much for sending themwhskyfan wrote: If you would like some pups I would be happy to send them to you. Just email me.
Here's a moonflower from my gardens a few years ago. They are lovely flowers. Their scent is like a heady jasmine, the blooms can be as big as saucers, the vines reach an average of 15 feet, but can grow twice as high under optimum conditions, and yes, they bloom at night. They make a nice compliment to morning glories. One blooms in the morning, and the other takes over in the evening.

Thanks, Linda. This is one of my all-time favorite flowers.
I've never heard of them growing wild, Joanie. The genus is Ipomoea. I'm not sure what part of the world it originates from, but I'd guess it only grows wild in subtropical or tropical climates. I buy my moonflower seeds from Burpee . The seed coats are really hard, so it helps if you give the seed coat a tiny nick with a sharp knife and soak them in water overnight before planting. Also, make sure the soil is throughly warmed in the spring before planting. The seeds will sometimes rot in the ground if there's a cold snap while they're sprouting.
