Conservation groups sue over gray wolf delisting

Post by SETIsLady » 06-02-2009 10:49 PM

Conservation groups have filed a lawsuit today to have wolves in Idaho and Montana put back on the endangered species list. Suzanne Stone with the Defenders of Wildlife says they and 12 other conservation groups have joined forces in the lawsuit.

It's one of five separate suits expected to be filed. The wolves were taken off the endangered list last month. Managed wolf hunts are planned in Idaho and Montana this fall, unless a judge agrees with the lawsuits and puts the wolves back onto the endangered species list.

Meanwhile in Wyoming, that state's attorney general asked a federal judge in Cheyenne to clear the way for hunts in his state. "Right now the plan is so unreasonable and jeopardizes the population at such a level that we can't support it," said Stone.
