Well Wishes For An Old Friend...

Post by Biker » 05-23-2007 07:39 PM

Tomorrow morning at 10:30, I'm taking my 17 year old dog, Harn The Horrible, to the vet to take the Last Train West.
He's been in a great deal of pain lately - he can't walk without my help - and I probably waited too long. Selfish of me but...I kept hoping.
He has been a fine Friend to me and likely saved my life on at least one occasion.
Although I'm a true skeptic when it comes to "mind blasts" and that kind of thing, every once in awhile I'm wrong. So if you have a minute at 10:30 Mountain Time tomorrow, wish my shaggy Brother blue sunny skies and country roads.
He always did love my Harley.

Thanks Folks.

Oh God Biker. I'm crying... It's one of the hardest things in life to have to deal with. My thoughts to you and Harn The Horrible. He was a damn lucky dog to have you for seventeen years. No matter how long we have our companion pets, it's never long enough! He'll be waiting for you though...just over the rainbow.

Biker, I always dreamed of buring my little cat in the bluffs of our home. When she went, however, it took two days. It was only at the end that I took her to the 24-hour vet, and did the right thing.

YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING.

I will pray tomorrow. But this will hurt for a long, long time, my friend. I still dream about my little cat. And it's been four years. But they say that when we go, our pets will be there to greet us. Before anyone else. How beautiful.

Godspeed, Harn.

So sorry and it's sad when they go....my heart goes with you.

I know how you feel bro. Last summer I had to put down my best buddy Kamandi, a lovable, loyal, and smart German Shepherd.

We did a lot together. Fishing trips, camping trips, swimming, he helped raise my kids. There was even a rabid pit bull loose in the neighborhood while my 3 year old son was playing in the grass in the front yard one time. I was under the car changing the oil and would roll out every few minutes to check on my boy. Seconds later my dog just went freakin nuts and before I could run over to grab my boy he was chasing the vicious intruder down the street. The cops later told us that the mad dog had already bit two kids around town. One had to have stitches. My best friend probably saved my son's life.

Well...last summer he got sick. The vet said he had cancer through out his entire body. He was in severe pain, as you know. I had to send him to God.

While I held his paw as the vet injected him he looked up at me with his big soulful brown eyes. And he licked my hand. Moments later he laid his big proud head down on my hand and went to sleep.

That last moment on Earth he knew I loved him.

I know he knows I still do.

It's amazing how close we can get to our pets. They often become a best friend and even considered a member of the family.

Hoping the hurt heals fast...

I am very sorry, Biker. Please know that you and your wonderful friend Harn are in my thoughts and prayers. Times like this are always difficult and are never easy. Please know that Harn knows that you love him; as he loves you. Please take care.

Hey Race! Nice to see ya posting again.

Biker, you should read this when you get a chance. It's called Marley & Me.

It's the best dog story I've ever read. Best animal story for that matter. It will make you laugh, cry, and fill your heart with joy. But most of all it will make you feel better.

It helped me with my loss immensely. If you read it tell me what you thought.

Biker...

It was something I thought I'd never have the courage to do, but I "let go" of my 14.5 year old baby more than ten years ago...I, too, waited till the last minute, but they say "you'll know" when it's time, and thus, you have reached that place.

17.5 years...what an incredible amount of time to have had dear Harn. You both have been very blessed.

You travel a well-worn road, damp from tears, but at the very end, you will see that smiling, furry face who has waited for what seems like only a matter of minutes (it is we who wait and mourn) and together you will be forever.

I will be thinking of you. Godspeed, faithful Harn.
